As for the funding, the government could cut off all funding to the Corporation For Public Broadcasting, and neither NPR nor PBS would lose much.
The government started weaning them in 1983. They might as well finish the job.

Does nobody remember the uproar in the eighties when lefty corporations like Exxon/Mobil and The Chub Group started sponsoring programing on these "public" media?

How much money does the government give NPR?
I've seen two figures today. It's either 1% or it's 2%.

NPR is funded primarily by charitable foundations, corporations, and listener/viewer contributions.

Left wing nuts like Soros fund NPR.
Right wing nuts like the Koch brothers fund NPR.

Cut the cord government and do it now.

I like NPR because I used to listen to their blues program on Saturday afternoons before I got XM Radio - now it's Outlaw Country all the time, or blues if I want to.

Oh - and I don't give a **** who any of those networks fire or hire. They are all just media ho's who would swear horse$&!% tastes like shredded wheat if they could stir up more drama to make money for the parent company or advance the cause of the party that is pimping them off. :brick:

Actually NPR is left wing and according to leaked memos NPRs biggest gripe with Williams is that he was appearing on Foxnews for some of their panel discussions and had been for years.

An interesting piece on it from Powerline,

http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2010/10/027508.php

EDIT: I also do not see anything racist about what he said,

The move came after Mr. Williams, who is also a Fox News political analyst, appeared on the “The O’Reilly Factor” on Monday. On the show, the host, Bill O’Reilly, asked him to respond to the notion that the United States was facing a “Muslim dilemma.” Mr. O’Reilly said, “The cold truth is that in the world today jihad, aided and abetted by some Muslim nations, is the biggest threat on the planet.”

Mr. Williams said he concurred with Mr. O’Reilly.

He continued: “I mean, look, Bill, I’m not a bigot. You know the kind of books I’ve written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous.”

Mr. Williams also made reference to the Pakistani immigrant who pleaded guilty this month to trying to plant a car bomb in Times Square. “He said the war with Muslims, America’s war is just beginning, first drop of blood. I don’t think there’s any way to get away from these facts,” Mr. Williams said.

For those who do not know, Huffington Post, CAIR, and George Soro's Think Progress were the driving forces in getting him fired.

Since June four bigots have been fired for public remarks.
Good riddance to Helen Thomas, Octavia Nasr, and Rick Sanchez.

Williams gets to hang around because he's the right kind
of bigot.

I think Rick Sanchez was fired for being the biggest dum bass on tv and having no ratings. They were looking for a reason. As far as for what Jaun Williams said, I can't believe that people think he is the only one that feels that way.
We just hired a mexican guy at work who said he felt like he was surrounded by skin heads when he walked in, because alot of us have our heads shaved. I never thought of trying to get him fired. We just laughed when he told us.

I didn't think Williams did anything wrong,I feel the same way when I'm on a plane. This is the downfall of America,we are so dam afraid that we will offend somebody that people get fired over .Even worst we let people get killed over it like FT.Hood. I don't trust any devout Muslim. If they believe join us or die,how can you.
