Illegals can't get foodstamps, but they have a boatload of kids while they are here and the kids get the foodstamps, and many other social handouts. SO, what is the difference? Can someone can tell me one good reason to give the illegals amnesty?
1) They are escaping religious persecution? No problems in Mexico be able to practice your faith.
2) They are stimulating the U.S. economy? No, pass by any latino supermercado and you will see a poster explaining in spanish how easy it is to wire money back home to Mexico.
3) They are doing jobs Americans won't do? Wrong again, pass by any highway construction project and tell me who has the high-paying construction jobs.
4) They are seeking a better life? Nope, the illegal who smashed the wife's car is here 14 years and didn't bother to learn any english, get driver's license or insurance. But yet managed to have 2 kids here on the taxpayer's dime, and now the kids are in school having to have the lesson plan stopped and completely reiterated in spanish, taking away from classroom instruction time. And you, the taxpayer, is footing the bill for the extra burden. You also pay your dedutible too.
5) They will work for less and want YOUR job? Damn straight. CEO's and corporate management wet dream.
6) They want to be able to vote? You betcha. We are getting very close to having the first latino president, and english will not be the official language anymore. My sister is a school teacher and has lost out on positons because she is not bi-lingual. Most customer service jobs now require applicants to be bi-lingual, or pay a higher pay differential for it. An illegal that barely speaks english, but speaks spanish also is now earning more than the rest of the employees?
7) But you are a racist? No, I just like the laws that are already in place to be enforced and any LEGAL immigrant given a fair chance. IMHO.

By working here, they are producing output, which stimulates the economy to some extent.

You ever heard of meat processing? I bet even one specific hog plant in Hooker hires a particular demographic because of their willingness to locate there are work.

Your anecdotal story says nothing about his intent, or any other immigrant's intent. All it says is that one particular individual didn't have his **** together.



All in all, you're trying to paint a very emotional picture mostly devoid of facts. I'm not a fan of illegal immigration, but I pretty much subscribe to the premise of "don't hate the player, hate the game." We need to fix the system, not the individual criminal. That approach is like trying to bail water from a boat, one droplet at a time.

As Cards81fan, this is overly emotional and useless to any form of real debate.

If someone is here and paying to send money home then that mere act is contributing to our economy by the sheer fact that wiring money is not free. Oh, and they probably also consume food. Not to mention the labor they are providing whatever job they hold.

The person who hit your wife's car doesn't have to learn english to have a better life, not to mention that by being here they probably have provided for a better life for his or her children. I'm not saying the action of being here illegally is right, just that your logic has a big flaw in it. It might be bad for your sister, but being bi-lingual isn't a bad thing and our teachers certainly should be rewarded for speaking multiple languages be it spanish or chinese.

Oh, and FYI we don't have an official language in this country so you don't need to fear a latino president.

You clearly don't have any employees of your own. I've owned my own business for close to 10 years and have averaged over 100 employees at a time during that period. The American work ethic is crap. I can't even begin to count the number of able bodied employees who don't show up to work and come in the next day wanting a letter for DHS stating that they no longer work there so they can start receiving benefits. It literally happens every single week.

I don't knowingly hire illegals and less than 10% of my work force is hispanic. I've never once paid anyone under the table. I do all the required new hire reporting and immediately terminate anyone who's social comes back as invalid. I say all that to say this, in 10 years of business I have never had a single employee whose native language is Spanish request any documentation for DHS benefits or file for unemployment. They generally have a much stronger work ethic than those born here as well. Although my workforce may only be 10% hispanic, if I were to rate my employees, hispanics would make up half of the top 10%. I have several employees who work 75+ hrs every week between two different jobs and never complain or slack off. I have nothing but respect for them.

My opinions are grounded in real life experience, not internet chain letters or right wing hyperbole. I am as conservative as most Oklahomans. I am disgusted on a daily basis with elements of our society. I have a strong background in business, economics and finance. I have a good basic understanding of how our economy works. I'm telling you right now, you are missing the real issue. Illegal immigration is an issue and it needs to be addressed. However, it is not bringing our economy down or impacting your way of life. If our economy crashes, and it very well may, a citizenry who is fiscally irresponsible and government spending and entitlements will be to blame, not illegal immigrants.

I agree with you about the American work ethic. Also about hispanic workers and I too have 1st hand knowledge of their work ethic. But IRRC it was the city of Anaheim, CA that sued the Mexican Government for about 10 billion dollars for reimbursement for healthcare and education of their citizens. This I have 1st hand knowledge of too, it happened when I was out there. Don't think for a minute that illegal immigration doesn't have a cost because it does. The fallacy of said suit being brought in light of the fact that they were required by law to provide these services is another discussion, but Anaheim did in fact try it. Of course it went exactly nowhere.
