I heard it, it scared the **** out of me. I thought I heard the fins whining from a LARGE jet engine. By time I thought about going outside, it was gone.

Not like a fighter.....

Minites later my wife was fueling trucks at the airport, and a plane came in sounding very bad, and had trouble landing.

That reminds me - the other night I was out around 10 PM in south BA, and I noticed three planes flying in column from NW to SE; they were low enough I could see the separate wing lights, and moving fairly quickly. Would this have been the Guard Unit?

They do this everynight Todd, however they fly multiple patterns, and they usually fly in twos, they do a big circle, fly back to the runway... almost to a tocuhdown, then afterburn out on another run.

I was talking to my wife she was about 300 yds from the runway fueling FedEx trucks when they took off... it was 45 seconds before all three passed over our house heading south south east.

ScareYa?? Its Our Guard Unit on Night Flight. We're pretty much the lineup point on initial. Runway lines up with Memorial. F16'S

I dont think that was the guard, Im pretty sure that was a LARGE aircraft, like I said, I could hear the jet engine fins whining, it was a deep whining, like you hear when you sit in the back of a 737 at takeoff.

It lasted about 6 seconds, shook the entire house, it spiked my adrenaline, I shot from laying to standing and running to the door, then it was ***POOF*** gone.

I live in midtown so I didn't hear anything but I've seen an AWACS do touch and go's and flying really low north-south along the 169 corridor. Haven't seen it in awhile but I've seen it muliple times here in tulsa. Always really low and flying back and forth along 169 area to and from the airport. Maybe the guard guy will know more about them.

Somewhere out here!
The air space around Tinker is usually too busy for the AWACS guys to do their touch and go's to keep their qualifications current, so they fly this way and touch and go in the TIA air space. It's possible it was our jets last night over in BA, but I don't know what area they were flying this last week. Buddy in BA asked me about it, and he was positive it was our jets, and he's pretty good at picking jets out purely by sound. I can't say one way or the other.
