I'm all about freedom., but in this day and time, going to a large public event does require extra security.
I'm sure I don't need to list the public events that have been bombed, shot etc.

But I will if you desire.

Personally, I value the Freedom / Liberty of our country, for which millions of Patriots have fought and died, more than I value the "PERCEPTION" of safety provided by policies like.

There was security all over the Boston Marathon event at the finish line, including bomb sniffing dogs, and they couldn't stop two punk kids from blowing people up with firecrackers and a pressure cooker.

If some lunatic wants to cause carnage, none of these "Security Measures" are going to stop it. All they do is assure that those killed were searched and groped shortly before they died. If I were one of the victims, I would rather die a free man in a free country where I wasn't "Violated" by a search before hand. That is an experience I would prefer not to have on my mind at the time of my untimely death.

And if I am too much a coward to attend a public gathering that doesn't include groping and searches, I think the event will probably be better off without me. I would probably be the type that would grab your wife or child to use as a human shield if the threat were a shooter.

That said, no one is forced to go to Mayfest which is why I did not refer to these measures as "Illegal or Unconstitutional". As other posters suggested, vote against these nefarious activities with your wallet by going somewhere else. Be sure to let Mayfest organizers why you didn't go there and let the Blue Dome organizers know why you did.

I see where you failed to quote my second post.

I agreed with loudshirt that when you go to mayfest or any major sporting event, concert, etc, they will search your bag, yet not ask for your "papers".

If your not comfortable with it like I'm not.
Dont go, and your rights will not be violated. Easy fix.

Dennis, pleas understand, my post was not directed at you personally, but at the words and line of reasoning in the post I responded to. We all hear those words more and more every day which is why they were repeated here. I didn't even bother to look at who posted it or care about any follow up posts because the "Who" or "Why" wasn't important to the point I wanted to make. I was merely addressing the concept behind the words, the terrifying willingness of Americans to exchange our Freedom for the PERCEPTION of safety.

I agree whole heartedly with your last statement. Unfortunately, what starts out as optional usually becomes compulsory once people have been conditioned to view it as a normal part of their daily lives. Getting groped at the airport no longer seems quite as bad as when it first started. Now those "Security Measures" are being rolled out to community festivals. Next will be compulsory random checks of bags on "public" streets.....all for the safety of the children like the ones standing around the public officials at the time the new measures are announced, of course.

I understand the no coolers/large bags cause they don't want you bringing in your own drinks and food.
They are greedy for the $$$.
However down at the kids activity area they were giving away free large pink bags from St. Francis hospital.

Lots of dogs saturday afternoon.
