You all say it doesn't bother you, but if you lost a family member because someone was under the influence of marijuana, would it change your tune? It is known it alters your gross motor skills, reaction time, etc...let's not make it any easier for people to get it and abuse it like alcohol. Who here has a lost a family member to a DUI related crash. I have, it tears families apart.

How about we punish DUI offenders? As far as I'm concerned first DUI offense should result in loss of license forever as well as prison time, and second should carry a lot mandatory prison time.

How would you approve of your above logic used to push gun control? Because that's basically the argument the libtards are using.

as for DUI offenders, ask your DA why people have 5 or 6 DUI's through Tulsa County but still have a license. I'm for stiffer punishments for DUI

Hey I have an idea, why don't you just say you want it legal so you can continue to smoke it without getting in trouble. That will clear up a lot of things. lol

I vote for unregulated tobacco and marijuana regardless of what its' use is. A person should be free to do what they want as long as they are not hurting others. No injured party no crime.

Hell why don't we put gov't tax on psuedo, coffee filters, camp fuel, etc...all the stuff used to make meth. I mean I may need a quick pick me up while at work.....let's make it legal. What is the real argument for legalizing marijuana? no one gives a **** about medical marijuana except cancer patients. The majority pushing for it are pot heads and people who will benefit from growing it.

Infringing upon gun rights is against the Constitution. No where did it say the right to get high......lol

The point is that trying to legislate morals and controlling a society by increasing the number of victim-less crimes is a fail.

I'm all for legalizing meth and hard drugs as well. I say let the idiots kill themselves so I can stop paying for them. I think the same thing about gambling, it's just a tax on people who don't understand math.

That said, some people have a need to control other people, and libertarian ideas don't work for them.

Well, they had to start somewhere, I suppose..... nods and respect to your personal experience, SgtMojo, in all sincerity. However, I personally doubt one could define mareewanna as the official "starting point" of the addiction and exclude any other addictive substances. I think some people are wired to be addicts and they're going to be hooked on something.

For me, I suppose that's coffee but that's another thread.

One thing which never ceases to amaze me is the vehemency of the anti-mareewanna crowd. I would personally hate to be in the position of standing up for the status quo of Mexican drug gangs and the many billions of dollars they rake in every year, but imho, that's what people are shilling for when it gets right down to the nutcutting. You may not say so, but this is the real unintended consequence of your position (your as in the plural, not in the singular). Prohibition didn't work for booze, either.

Status report from Colorado: So far, no new heroin addicts to report since the whole state has been mile high in smoke over the past several months. And no, the feds are not going to take away anything. They will rumble occasionally about a dispensary being too close to a school and that's about it. And that's not a bad idea anyway. Actually, the passing of Amendment 64 (which is a constitutional amendment and not an act of the legislature, btw) was pretty much ho-hum other than the celebratory smoke-ins. Pre-64 (which is kinda cool for the Winchester crowd), the fine for simple possession in Denver was $5 anyway. In other words, peace officers didn't waste time on ridiculous endeavors.

Speaking of, has anyone stopped to think about the results whenever the feds declare war on something? How's LBJ's War on Poverty coming along? How's that War on Drugs doing lately? Any updates from the War on Terror now that we're declaring victory and coming home? Anytime war is declared on something by the feds, that's pretty much an indication to watch the trillions flow into the trough and "don't worry about the results. Move along .. nothing to see here".

Ok, off the soapbox. Apologies.

My personal opinion is that the legal growing of hemp will far outpace recreational mareewanna commerce ultimately. This particular crop has, as far as I can tell, incredible benefits in terms of biofuels, clothing, fiber and nutrition. It has the potential of replacing farm subsidies with actual cash crops that have the potential of enriching the soil as opposed to the incredible foolishness of ethanol production. (More BTUs to produce than what comes out)

Great discussion by everyone though, and thanks for letting everyone put in their two cents' worth.
