Well, I guess it's over for me. Don't think I'm gonna make it back out this coming week.
All in all it was probably one of my best/most enjoyable seasons I've had. Had a lot of free time to hunt by myself during the week in October and November, which I really enjoy. Something about knowing you are the only one on the place on a weekday during the best time of the year is exciting. When I wasn't on stand, I was doing some in-season scouting and trying to learn more for next year.
The weather was awesome overall, had some beautiful, cool days early in the season which was really nice.
By the numbers I had:
-58 sits on stand (I had over 60 last year, but this cold snap kept me home this December...wimp.)
-At a conservative estimate of 4 hours each, that's 232 on-stand hours.
-24 nights in a tent.
-1 doe killed with my bow (mid-October).
-1 2.5 year old 8 point killed with my muzzleloader (chased a doe RIGHT to me November 1st. Not much time to think, thought he was older. Oh well, not disappointed at all.)
-Countless numbers of deer seen, lots of small bucks chasing does.
-2 mature buck sightings, IE 3.5+ (October 10th and December 5th, the December buck was dogging a doe. October buck stayed 10 yards out of bow range, still very cool. I don't get mature bucks that close often).
One thing I didn't see much off this year was other wildlife. No coyotes, gray foxes, bobcats etc. Just worked out that way I guess.
Always depressing to see it go. I live for the last week of October and the first 3 weeks of November. The main thing I learned is that it only comes once a year, and is over far to quickly. Every chance you get to head to the woods that time of the year is worth it.
Just a few of several hundred pictures I took this year. This is only the second year I've taken a lot of picutures, wish I would have started years ago.
Pre-season woods
Not a hunting pic, just saw it from the road last fall.
Same thing, not hunting, just roadside scenery.
Little buck I put the sneak on in early October.
Me packing a stand in.
Biggest trail cam buck. Only one pic and never seen in person.
Nice 3.5 year old 8
Same deer as above, shot by my dad 9 days later almost 1 mile away.
My bow doe
My muzzleloader 8
Yours truly
Anyways, hope you enjoyed the pics. I posted them here because I thought the non-hunters might like some of them. I hope all my fellow hunters had as good of a season as I did.
