I LOVE dogs, pit bulls, GSD's, you name it. I have no issues with that shooting. Glad the dog survived, wouldn't care if it hadn't of. Clean shot, thank god he wasn't injured.

He looked like he was in trouble because he now has to do a shitload of paperwork, be interrogated and be on administrative leave for 2 weeks or more. All because dumbass druggie "needed" a dog.

Sad deal. The dog should've been on the leash. Officer did the right thing.

As far as all "pit bull" comments - some pretty ignorant stuff. Pit bulls are medium sized breed of mild temper. You wanna see "dangerous" breeds? Most Americans have no clue what an aggressive large dog is capable of - look-up Caucasian Sheepdog, Russian Schnauzer, Akita, Bandoggo, Corso - those have strength and agility to take down dangerous game (not a 40lb dog as pitbulls were bread to do) and that handgun wouldn't do jack-**** to a charging 120lb+ dog.

It's only ignorant because you don't see 1000 news stories a day about charging Akitas. Problem here is breeding, period.

Best dogs out there are mutts anyway.

Somewhere out here!
I'm glad the dog survived, but a story on what the dog was like before, or video of what it was like before would have made a huge difference. I can't say I understand how the dog was acting, because people's stories will be conflicted or confusing. I have a serious emotional attachment to dogs, but if I ever felt in fear of my well being, or that of a family member or close friend, I would do the same thing. The worst part to me was the dog screaming, but again, that's my emotional attachment to dogs in general.

I've been around dogs all my life, and having spent more than 2 years as a dog bather for a local groomer I feel I've probably more experience with dogs (including plenty of pits) than the average person. I've only been bitten once where blood was drawn and it was by a Golden Retriever. Apparently, the dog was cage shy and the owner didn't know, when I opened the cage it immediately latched onto my arm. When the groomer saw what was happening he tried to help by grabbing the collar of the beast. He got the worst of it when the dog twisted and latched onto his hand, breaking it. I had to get 15 stitches in my left forearm, and the groomer had to have orthopedic surgery. Luckily he didn't lose any function.

From what I can see in the video, the officer responded appropriately. It may not have been his only option, but was most immediate and effective.

But you do hear 1000 news stories about "assault weapons" ... pitbull in the news makes just as much credible sense.

Bad breeding is the problem.
Mutts can be good, but also can be the worst - you take a pitbul with strong fighting prey drive and mix it with "loving" lab - and a you get a dog that looks like a pit with playful energy of a lab that doesn't know the difference between play and prey - and you get you viscous attack dog with no provocation. I bet 90% of reported "pitbull attacks" aren't really pitbulls.

“Just because a dog has a general kind of pit bull look doesn’t tell you anything about its genetic make up,” says Bradley who is an instructor for the Academy of Dog Trainers at the San Francisco SPCA. “It’s like looking at a class of second graders, and assuming all the kids with blonde hair are from Scandanavia, or their parents, or their parents’ parents were from there.”

She continues, “When dogs do bad things, and have a pit-bull type look, immediately that’s what the authorities and the community assumes it is. We’ve been programmed to make that false assumption.”

umm ,i aint lettin a dog chew on me for 2 minutes while we wait for animal control.that tough talk might impress the kids at day care, but you don't have to be a girly man to not want to be seriously injured by a dog with the kinda of strength pits possess

If you provoke something expect an action. Blue boy advanced on a dog protecting its master after having maced it. Pit bull? Mix? Wow. That dog looked Soooo scary. Already had a fellow say he would shoot a poodle. Officers supposedly are on sight to lend assistance but for over 5 or 6 minutes do exactly nothing but go into riot controle over upseting the crowd of by standers. I didnt see a dog biting anybody. Just a scared shitless fella that shot a dog.
