I know we went over this, but just for our benefit, can we all help in some way to push this out of the "public safety" committee?
Maybe write or email someone?
thanks in advance

Contact your rep and ask them to urge the Speaker to override the committee pursuant to House Rule 7.8(e). Also encourage them to start or participate in a discharge petition if necessary, which overrides the committee and the Speaker pursuant to House Rule 7.12.

In the Senate, urge them to make an effort to withdraw the bill from committee pursuant to Senate Rule 12-20. At the same time, you'll need them to urge the President Pro Tempore to place it on the Senate Floor Calendar rather than reassigning it to another committee.

Have any of these overrides ever worked in the past? I don't know.

I moved from a state that has open carry (Nevada) and it is no big deal as far as the public is concerned. The rhetoric about people flipping out over seeing someone carrying a pistol on their hip is just stupid nonsense, or like I saw one student commenting on Texas's proposed CCW-on-campus about the police not knowing who to shoot, just plain ignorant.

Anyone of reasonable intelligence is going to know that a criminal isn't going to openly show their weapon anyway.

Granted, few people did carry openly, but it was nice to be able to. We went shooting out in the desert most of the time and it was nice to just holster our weapon from house to the car, etc. As long as it was visible from 3 sides, it was good.

I agree with a previous commenter about the deterrent factor. If some crook walks into a convenience store (s)he is less likely to rob it if everyone in line have pistols on their hip. :)

For informational purposes, here is my letter to my rep:
Dear Rep. XXXX
The public safety committee released the "Open Carry of firearms " Bill last year for vote, where it was voted up by both the House and Senate and then sent to the Governor who vetoed it.

This year, the public safety committee has decided not to send the same Bill out to the floor.

As my representative, I urge you to ask the Speaker of the House to override the public safety committee pursuant to House Rule 7.8(e) and to please have this bill allowed on the floor, just as it was last year.

Sincerely
MY NAME AND ADDRESS

Positive and very strong evidence that the only reason the bills were released last year was that the committee chairs knew that henry would veto it and that the veto had next to no chance of being over ridden. The fix was in and they knew it.

The elitist swine don't want the plebes open carrying. One must wonder why?

And finally to Sen. Bingman:
Subj: Please put Open Carry Bill on the floor

As Head of the Senate, I urge you to ask the Speaker of the House to make an effort to withdraw this bill from the public safety committee pursuant to Senate Rule 12-20 and to please have this bill allowed on the floor, rather than assigning it to another committee, so it can get a vote just as it was allowed to last year.

I see that the state it going to try to pass open carry again. IMHO I personally don't see a need for open carry. I prefer to have my weapon were it can be deployed when needed, but really no one needs to know I have it any other time. I like the surprise element of concealed you are less likely to be the shooters first target. What do you think?

I pretty much feel the same way as you do about my personal choice of how I carry. However I do not see how that has anything to do with an open carry law. Free people should be able to make that decision on their own and I will support anything that give them the right to make that choice. Giving others the right to choose will in no way hinder my ability to carry concealed if that is what I decide to do.
Its about freedom.

Michael
