I was told that the next time that I had a knee surgery, it was going to be a replacement. That was 3 years ago, and with the way medicine progresses, I am wanting to look at options. My knee is locking and shifting, not a lot, but enough. I can walk without much pain, but bending and squatting is tough. I heard about a new procedure called Mako(sp) surgery, that basically resurfaces the joint so it will track straight. Anyone hear of it, or know about it?

Thanks for the suggestions, I have a good doctor right now, Ron LaButti, but I was curious if any of the Ortho Docs on the board, or anyone else had heard of this type of surgery.

Went to the WC doc today, he said replacement.....

Makoplasty is hype and marketing. It's only for partial knee replacements. The latest innovation in knee replacement is the all new ConforMIS knee. One has been placed by one surgeon in Oklahoma so far but my prediction is it will be a game changer.

I have been to a doc at southwest orthopedic and he told me I needed a partial. He specializes in the mako. Honestly, I'm not sold on it. I have had 7 surgeries so far, 5 on my right knee. Most of the damage on the lateral side, it's been bone on bone for years. I am worried that if I have the partial it will shift the load to the inside and cause it to start tearing up. I'm leaning toward a total replacement. I do know I'm about done with the pain. I'm 36 and my first surgery was when I was 15. 21 years of knee pain sucks.

I looked it up, sounds pretty good. Looks like the only person doing it in OK is in Woodward. I am assuming it is pretty expensive compared to the traditional? I wonder if I would have the option of choosing it in a WC case?
