Places to eat in Fredrick,Altus, Vernon,Tx.?

Hey All,

My wife and I like to travel the state on the weekends. So, in a few weeks, we may head toward the S.W. part of Oklahoma.

Any good places to eat in Fredrick, Altus, Vernon,Tx? Good mom and pop..chicken fried steaks, B.B.Q., good t-bone or ribeye places, mexican food??

also Vernon has good food. Duncans BBQ and that mexican restaurant right off 287 cant think of the name but it is always good and busy.

Val's Its About Time in Altus. A mainstay since the 70's. North Main Street (Hwy 283) and "A" Street

There used to be a catfish place in Vernon that was quasi-famous, but I don't know if it is still there

Altus:
La Plaza....best Mexican food in town (and best place over all, IMO) also has good chicken fry, and regular steaks too
Roberts.....decent burger joint
Roma's.....for Italian food
Billy Sim's....for BBQ

Vernon.....I don't know of anything sorry

Frederick......There is a decent Chinese place there, but I don't know of much else

Honorable mention.....

Meers by/in the refuge by Lawton is ok

Jake's Rib in Chickasha (not in the towns you listed, but pretty awesome and on the way)

Places to avoid:
Any Chinese or Thai place in Altus
Val's in Altus
Backdoor Steakhouse in Blair
Luigi's in Blair or Altus
Benny's Pizza in Altus (tossed it last time I ate there, seriously)

Altus: Val's wasn't open last time we went thru...continued north and went to Fred's Steakhouse. Not bad at all.

I completely forgot about Benny's on North Main in Altus. However it may be one of those places that was the best food ever when we were younger and you go back and say "what were we thinking" But its definitely local flavor and worth a shot

this mexican place is good. owners son is or used to manage Toby Keith's here in OKC IIRC

^^^^^+1, I grew up in Altus, we went to Benny's a lot. I was down there about a year ago, we had a large group, the huge nachos were still awesome but some of the other plates could have been much better.

If you're around Frederick there is a great mom & pop Mexican place in Chatanooga - owned by the Garza family. Don't remember the name, but it won't be hard to find in Chatty.
