Of course, the other aspect to the debate is what if state law mirrors or otherwise enforces federal law, i.e. the AZ immigration law? Apparently AZ cannot enforce the federal law in that instance, but do you see the DEA getting up in arms when OBNDD and municipalities enforce state drug laws?

I'm pretty sure that the "Uniform..." drug laws are tied to federal funding. And states (Oklahoma especially) don't like to give up that funding.

Agreed, though being a bit more cynical that that. As in, the Federal Government only allows the state to exercise its 10th Amendment authority when it conveniences the Feds, not necessarily when the state has a legitimate interest in the matter it is legislating and enforcing. Of course, that's rather obvious to (most of) us here.

They tie that funding into drug laws. Transportation funding into motor vehicle laws. I fear for the day they tie defense and law enforcement funding into gun control laws.

Pondering this thread, I can't help but wonder if ZombieHunter rolled a spliff with the constitution, would DutchWrangler smoketh it?

Also, bated breath.

As I've said of late, I could care less about the Constitution. It's a worthless piece of paper. Plus, I don't smoke so it doesn't matter.

Easy to become jaded considering the current times but hang in there Dutch. One nice thing about our form of government is we pretty much have a revolution every 4 years at election time. There's hope - not the kind Obama screeches about - yep there's hope.

Oh yeah? Well it guarantees you the right to make that statement without fear of prosecution. That's really a pretty crappy comment to make considering there are so many men and women putting their asses on the line to defend the Constitution, sure the politicians are ignoring it, but the fat lady isn't singing.

I've been told repeatedly by forum members that I don't know a thing about the Constitution. That I make stuff up as I go. So why defend it? Seriously, find one post of mine in the past where I wasn't defending the concept where it embodied a limited central government. Instead I'm told I'm naive and ignorant as to what it says, that we should accept the final word of those black robed gods who are above us and not question their final judgement and godlike ability to "interpret" the text. That only lawyers know the history of the US and thus only lawyers can know what the Constitution means. If you're not a lawyer, STFU and stay in your position in your caste.

As for what it guarantees... nothing. I can think untold instances where those in power circumvent it to achieve their agenda. Of people imprisoned, beat and killed while the Constitution did nothing to stop it. Odd that you say it guarantees free speech when in this day and age almost everyone in the US is afraid to say anything negative about someone else without fear of being labeled a racist, bigot or terrorist. It's doing a bang up job of protecting the life of the unborn. Great job of protecting the property taken from employers and employees without their concent. Love the way it protects people as they are sexually molested by government agents when wanting to travel by air. Love how it protects people from being imprisoned for having non-government approved vegetation in their possession. Or selling raw, healthy milk to people. And on and on and on. Trust me, I'm careful with what I put out there in public because I know that it doesn't protect my right to say what I want because I know that I could be targeted. I'm sure a few others on this forum know this reality too. But we don't wear rose colored glasses.

The Constitution attempts to set up this Utopian society. And it's failed. Miserably. Yet people become indignant when the truth is mentioned. Give me all this "they're putting their asses on the line to defend" bullsh*t. Defending what? A failed, meaningless document that protects nobody. Unless of course you're a government protected illegal alien. Or a current government protected race. Or a government protected class. Or a government protected union member. Or a Congresscreaton. Or a Marxist in the Oval Office.

I won't defend the Constitution anymore. It's a failed, meaningless document not worthy of my attention or support. From this point onward I'm only defending the rights granted to man by the Creator. The Constitution is dead. It's death came last week when a man was murdered without due process. And what is the most ironic thing is that Americans cheered. That they agreed with the Marxist in Chief that it was a good thing to do. But at least I'm not the only one who thinks the Constitution died. For your reading pleasure...
