Yes I have a CCL. I have an un-usual last name so my name isnt the reason. I been told because I have a security clearance that the NICs group can see that the FBI looked into my background but do not know why. So I am delayed. I also heard because of what I did in the military. Either way,, I am 95% delayed.
Interesting. I assumed my license was a free pass. Havent bought a gun since getting it though.

That's really just an urban legend. There is no systemic connection between a security clearance and NICS, NCIC or the III.
Maybe your name isn't as unique as you suspect and one long lost relative went on a crime spree, LOL.
It used to be a free pass...but it changed some years back.
Yeah, the coincidence makes it seem like the logical answer but following the same logic, anyone with a high level clearance would be delayed, or at least a large number of them would.
I, and many others I know, have had a variety of clearances up to and including special access programs, presidential support duty, nuclear/PRP etc.. for decades and have never once been delayed.
Have you looked in to getting the PIN?
Just so you know academy logs the delays with a system wide server so they all will see that. Also they will hold it the full thirty days unless they get the call whereas some places don't wait

I'm most concerned that if, while I'm out, I find a good deal and want to purchase that the Academy delay will automatically trigger another delay. Sounds like this would be the case at Academy.
I just purchased an M77 .270 in October with no issues so I just don't get the delay.
