do they charge your credit card right away on back ordered items or do they wait till it ready to ship? I placed and order but they never charged my card. I did get a email receipt with an order number and a customer number. I logged on under my account and I don't see an order.

RRA won't charge your card until they ship your order in my experience with them.

RRA makes good stuff but they haven't joined the 21st century yet when it comes to online commerce. Their web pages for customers to use to track orders are abominable.

Call their customer service line and talk to a human being. They can quickly and accurately answer your question about an existing order - they're good people - IF you can get a hold of them which is a really iffy deal in my personal experience.

As for ordering stuff from them in the first place - I recommend only doing it if they're the only place you can get what you want (for example the polymer mags for their .308 caliber AR). They take forever to fill orders.

Can mail-order merchants charge my card before they ship?

According to Janet Hug of Visa USA, "a merchant is not permitted to bill ahead of time" except in case of a deposit or down payment that the customer agrees to. (phone call from Visa USA, 12 May 1992)

MasterCard said in a letter that a merchant can charge you before shipment only if s/he tells you and you agree to "the terms and conditions of the sale."

American Express said the merchant can charge your card as soon as you give your account number; but if you receive the bill before the merchandise, call Amex customer service and you don't have to pay while they investigate. (phone call to Amex, 16 May 1992)
