Rod stuck in ground. What is it?

Sucker rod is round . or if it's really worn oval. Unusual shape was so it wouldn't turn on the spring hangers.
My dad’s sucker rod sections have hexagonal (maybe octagonal) flat plates attached to their main shafts, but I don’t recall if the main shafts are round or not. On further reflection, I agree that it’s probably an axle shaft, not sucker rod, and it could a tie-down anchor, but it’s more likely that it’s marking something, like a well. Water well seems most likely (there’s something similar marking an old well location on my folks’ place), but you never can tell.

Deadman anchors usually come out at an angle and have a loop formed in to the end.
I don’t think that’s oil or gas related.
Submit the gps coordinates to the OCC
If you have access to a Topographic Conpany map set , well bores are marked. But if it’s really old, it wouldn’t make the map.
