Just called Sen Sykes office and was told he is still looking at the amendments as of 2:14 P.M. Lady in the office took my name and told me she would tell him of my support for the bills passage.

So we are again down to our system allowing ONE person to make the decision to decide if the rest of the senate can have an opportunity to vote on it or not. What a crock.

I think we should each contact our respective Senators and ask them to encourage Senator Sykes to accept the House Amendments and advance the bill.

I guess I must have missed it but I thought that the House Amendments had already been heard? The only amendment was a floor amendment to remove the word "in". What is Sen. Sykes looking at ? If it is changed any more, I don't see any way it can get passed in time. The Senate is not scheduled to meet again until 1:30 P.M. Monday 5/7/12. I intend to keep calling and emailing until it gets the fourth reading.

Just got off the phone from having a real pleasant chat with Senator Shultz's Executive Assistant Pam Nordstrom. She said that until Senator Sykes decided to accept the House's amendments.. that Sen. Shultz's hands are tied. But allowed that Sen. Shultz would bring it up for a floor vote when he gets the bill. So we need to be contacting Sen. Sykes.

Update: 1:30pm.... Just got off the phone from talking with Tanya Lewis in Sen. Sykes office. Apparently he is still looking at the House amendments and deciding on whether or not he will accept them. So whoever posted earlier that he had told them he WOULD accept them was misinformed... as it is not a sure thing at this point. Keep up the pressure!

OK2A was the original poster of the information. I got it from their site. Today they have another announcement that contains the same information. Please call/email Senator Sykes and ask that he accept the House Amendments and brings it to the floor.

Link to Senate Journal, May 03, 2012. Frankenstein's monster... HB2522 still lives... and Sen. Sykes is one of the conferees! This may be part of the hold-up in getting SB1733 to the floor for a vote! Sen. Russel was appointed a conferee too... we just can't get rid of that lil troublemaker!

Just got off the phone with Senator Sykes' answering machine. I gave my name and number and asked him to give me a call to discuss SB1733. I also gave my support for the bill and asked that he do whatever he could to get this bill passed for us. I know that the more of us that put on the pressure the better our chances will be. Maybe we should all call about 20 times a day and flood his office with our messages. That might get his rear in gear.

I think one call per person should be sufficient, respectfully done. Flooding and harassing may have a negative effect. Instead maybe get 3-4 friends to call.
Multiple calls from one person may label them as a trouble maker.

FYI- When you are talking with anti-gun people and our legislators about SB1733 and 'Open Carry' here is a factoid you might work into your conversations. Arizona [which is open carry without a permit] had a population of 6,392,017 per the 2010 U.S. Census.

Oklahoma had a population of only 3,751,351! Arizona's heavily populated Maricopa county alone has a population of 3,817,117 people.. more than the entire state of Oklahoma. And yet, Arizona has absolutely no problems with open carry. You watch their nightly news casts across the state... no open carry problems are being reported... even with their illegal immigrant & border problems involving Mexico.

Anyone who might point out the nut job that shot Representative Gabby Giffords and the others needs to be reminded that he was not open carrying! Criminals like that guy don't show their weapon until they are about to start shooting. However, one of the men who tackled the shooter WAS legally carrying a weapon.. he just didn't draw his weapon... choosing instead to tackle the shooter while he was reloading.

Arizona's population per City & county as of the 2010 census:

Phoenix: 1,445,632
Tucson: 520,116
Mesa: 439,041
Chandler: 236,123
Glendale: 226,721
Scottsdale: 217,385
Gilbert: 208,453
Tempe: 161,719
Peoria: 154,065
Surprise: 117,517
Yuma: 93,064
Avondale: 76,238
Flagstaff: 65,870
Goodyear: 65,275
Lake Havasu City: 52,527
Buckeye: 50,876
Casa Grande: 48,571
Sierra Vista: 43,888
Maricopa: 43,482
Oro Valley: 41,011

Here are Arizona's 2010 county populations as reported by the Census Bureau:

Apache: 71,518
Cochise: 131,346
Coconino: 134,421
Gila: 53,597
Graham: 37,220
Greenlee: 8,437
La Paz: 20,489
Maricopa: 3,817,117
Mohave: 200,186
Navajo: 107,449
Pima: 980,263
Pinal: 375,770
Santa Cruz: 47,420
Yavapai: 211,033
Yuma: 195,751

And open carry isn't a problem in any of these major populated areas! It won't be in Oklahoma either!
