That's one reason why many of us prefer to see this bill this year even though we would rather see constitutional carry. Constitutional carry could easily be spun as not responsible since there would be no background check or training. Even though I would rather see constitutional carry, I think this is a good first step to prove to the fearful/fearmongers that law abiding citizens are responsible.
Very true. Let's get what we can this year and work on constitutional carry next year.

Well personally I favor constitutional carry as well. But I just can't see it getting signed into law. How would police be able to distinguish between who is good and who is bad if we didn't have to have a permit? If we could open carry and not have to have a permit then criminals might start carrying openly since there is no way of telling if they are legal or not. Unless there is something that I have not read that would require us to have a license to be able to OC. But either way will be great. I just hope SB1733 gets done soon. I am tired of having to go out of my way to conceal my pistol. To me its not just about being able to carry openly but being able to carry concealed and not worry about being detected. Whereas now I am constantly messing with my shirt making sure that my glock can't be see by anybody. And I can't just wear any shirt that I want to. I have to basically wear the same stuff all the time.

Your concerns are the same as many who support open carry (or concealed) but not Constitutional Carry. The very best answer out there is to look to other states that have Constitutional Carry. Do some research and find out if they have problems associated with it. My guess is that there are some, but they are pretty minimal, since we sure don't hear much about it... and I have little doubt that much of the media would jump on those stories like a chicken on a June bug!

I don't have the cite on me, but can dig it up if you really want it, the FBI did a survey of criminals and found that criminals don't open carry. The BG wants the element of surprise when they stick the gun in your face. Also, criminals don't carry in holsters, they just stick it in the waste band.

Aside from that, does it matter if the BG is open or concealed? If they are a criminal, they are probably already in violation of the law by simply being in possession of the firearm. The whole idea of making sure law abiding citizens are following the law so we know they aren't the BG is a bit silly. We don't pull over every car we see just to make sure the driver has a license, there would be a huge uproar over that.

4 states have constitutional carry, with a fifth, Montana, having it in some parts.
11 states are considering it, according to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constitutional_Carry
I don't think the LEOs in these states are handicapped between discriminating between good and bad guys based on who is carrying and who is not The whole point of Const Carry is that it is a natural right. Today, does an LEO have extra sensory perception to determine if someone is a good or bad guy just by looking at them? No. So why should people exercising a natural right be used to evaluate if someone is good or bad. Why should an LEO pay special attention to someone Const Carrying peacably? Basically, if the right to bear was exercised more frequently, it would become a more natural part of societal norms. Reality today is that even in states with Const Carry, the right is rarely exercised, except in rural areas.

some anti RKBA folk argue that lots of people carrying would take us back to the days of the wild west. Well, the days of the wild west were a HECK of a lot safer than the times we live in today. See: http://davidgalbraith.org/myth-bust...-much-safer-than-new-york-at-its-safest/1722/

How do they tell the difference now? Do we require all honest citizens to carry permits saying they are good citizens?

Anybody else read the on-line opinons section of the Oklahoman today?

Carrying firearms could curtail civil discussion
May 6, 2012 Oklahoman

Pending gun laws have me concerned. I support the constitutional right to bear arms and I support the Make My Day ruling that gives us the right to shoot someone who invades a home with the intent to rob or cause bodily injury. I'm having trouble, however, with a law that allows folks to carry firearms in holsters, purses or fanny packs. This could curtail civil discussions like “Let's talk it over” and replace it with “Let's settle it right here and now.” That's not a healthy alternative.

The days of Wyatt Earp and the OK Corral are gone. Let's not replace it with a confrontation in the parking lot of a Bricktown nightclub.

Where has this guy been the last 17 years...? In a cave? He must not know that Oklahoma has had concealed carry for 17 years without any problems. Just goes to show how safe Concealed Carry is since sheep like this guy don't even realize it has been the law this long.
