Oklahomans with concealed handgun permits would be allowed to carry their weapons in the open if a bill that easily passed the House of Representatives becomes law.

But members defeated an amendment Thursday that would have allowed for the open carrying of handguns anywhere without a permit.

Senate Bill 1733 would allow anyone possessing a license to carry a firearm under the Oklahoma Self Defense Act to carry the weapon either openly or concealed. It passed 85-3 and is headed for a conference committee.

It also would allow a property owner to openly carry a handgun on his or her land. No concealed carry permit would be required.

“This makes sure that it’s very clear that someone can carry on their own property openly,” said Hickman, R-Fairview, the House author of the measure. I read this over at USAcarry.com It is also listed on a number of other news websites.

I believe someone was misquoted along the way.

HB2522 is in conference committee because the House refused the senate amendments.

SB1733 is awaiting fourth reading in the Senate. They have (are supposed) accept the House amendments, then this is supposed to go to the governors desk.

Have you guys & gals noticed how loud the crickets have been chirping the last few days? After left leaning KOCO / News 5 did its story about how there was no evidence that 'open carry' increased gun crime... all we're hearing from the anti-open carry side is cricket chirping! Having it shown that they have no facts to back-up their fears ... they are having to regroup and come up with a new argument. I haven't seen one news article against open carry since the KOCO news story.

Who is it we email to get it on the agenda again? The Senate Floor Leader? We need to get this DONE!

Senator Sykes has to request his bill be placed on the agenda.

Senator Sykes ((405) 521-5569 [email protected])

I have heard that his office is asking for name, address and phone information from those that call and/or email. I am assuming they want to make sure we are legitimate Oklahoma residents and not out of state cronies asking for this.

Just called and asked for Senator Sykes to advance SB1733. His assistant did ask for my name and address.

I just called Sykes office again and got his assistant. I told them I wanted to voice my unwavering support for SB1733. She asked for my name and address.
I then asked if Sen. Sykes was going to accept the ammendments added by the house. The assistants response was, "I don't know?"

I asked that Sen. Sykes call me and give me a couple of minutes of his time so we could discuss his position. The assistant took my number so we will see if he actually calls me back. Ill let everyone know!
