People need to grow some dang balls and not comply. Good gosh people. America is so full of cowards it makes me sick. And don’t forget, if you have an imported pistol, whether it has a pistol brace now, or even if it doesn’t and never has, it is now ILLEGAL. It can even be to where one can’t be installed and it’s still ILLEGAL!

The paranoia is real. No one is kicking in your door to verify all this stuff. Ffs, like owning an auto sear, they don’t magically beckon the atf. Use some common sense if you’re concerned, otherwise this is still America, god gave you a brain to use.
It's not magic, it's called customer databases. Just watched a video of the ATF showing up at a guys house to collect his "oil trap". No mention of how they got his address and purchase info, but fairly sure it wasn't "magic".

Anyone who has ever used a credit card is on file. Information is power and valuable. Google and the credit card co’s and bureau’s make billions with our spending habits and such. And trust me, there is no anonymity anymore, not here or anywhere. Screen name be damned, lol. Google your screen name and most likely it comes up. So I always caution my friends and folks to not post anti .gov, President , and policy rhetoric. We aren’t as anonymous as we think. Not in a nearly cashless society now.

Again, we have brains and will power to do what we like. I imagine there will be a modification of the brace details but who really knows. The braces were a funky step that clearly circumvented the sbr law anyway.

I don’t know how accurate this is based on the language as I read it. Imho the fall back is barrel length or a plain pistol tube. Both of them close the loop.

Regardless of any outcome, go ahead...announce it too. There are better and bigger hills to die on, so make sure your choices aren't poor choices. Especially if you have not read the rule in its entirety and rely on the chikinlittlz on you tube. Good luck!

If I read it correctly it's not enough to just remove the brace. You can't have the brace around any guns that would become an SBR if you installed the brace on them. So I guess give it to someone who has no guns that a brace would convert them to a SBR if you put it on them. Someone else may read it differently but I think just removing the brace isn't enough to satisfy them.
Well under that logic, anyone who owns a regular AR with a stock on it would be suspect. I mean "technically", the stock could be removed from the AR and put onto an AR pistol? But that was ALREADY ILLEGAL...if a brace is now a stock, then they are ALL stocks...you can either own stocks or not.

What this is "really" about is that they wish people could not order the short uppers...but those were deemed "gun parts" so they don't have to go through an FFL to order them...if they "really" wanted to accomplish their goal, they would simply make a short upper have to be the registered PART and require it to go through an FFL to order.

I'm not saying I necessarily want that, but that is what would make more sense to me...owning a stock that can be used on anything that is also legal presents an issue. That is why the bump stock ban just fell...it was a piece of plastic and not part of the fire control. A belt loop could accomplish the same effect.

Before pistol braces were ever invented, people could freely order STOCKS. It becomes a crime if they install a stock onto an AR to create an SBR. But nobody was destroying stocks if they owned an AR pistol?

As many of you know, the ATF has ruled that many AR-15 pistols equipped with stabilizing braces are now short barreled rifles. ATF rule 2021R-08F went into effect one minute after midnight on Jan 31, 2023. After that date, no unregistered short barreled rifle (SBR) can be transferred (sold) to anyone for any reason, per the ATF. There is a grace period, lasting until May 31, 2023, to do something with those short barreled rifles. There are five possible options for possessors of such weapons. (1) Said weapon can be registered with the ATF as an SBR, (2) the short barrel may be removed and replaced with a barrel 16 inches or longer, (3) the brace may be permanently removed and disposed of, or altered in such a way that it cannot be reattached, (4) the weapon can be turned into the ATF, or (5) the weapon may be destroyed. Again, and this is the important point, an unregistered SBR cannot be transferred (sold) to anyone for any reason from this date forward. Such weapons should not be listed in the OSA classifieds since they can neither be bought nor sold. (Once an SBR has been registered, it can only be transferred according to the rules for dealing with Class III weapons.)
It’s a rule, not law.
