Until they know for a fact that what YOU are doing is perfectly legal(proving it with your permit) why should they think anything else? There may be those that decide to try and carry that are not doing so legally. Maybe my view is different than yours, but then again I don't agree with constitutional carry personally. I am more than happy to provide identification to any officer that asks if I make the decision to OC. I look at it as part of the deal right now. I decide to OC, I decide I am willing to be confronted multiple times throughout that day to verify I am doing so legally.

So, you believe they should assume you are a criminal if you are doing something that is perfectly legal??

Honestly, I have no intention to carry openly in town, however, I WILL carry openly if/when I make it to Midwest City! I'm NOT looking for trouble or to be a "test case", but I will NOT allow some bureaucrat to harass me if I can prevent it. I just ain't wired that way!

Actually, I think this answers everything. If you don't agree with the Constitution, it's no wonder you're willing to be a vassal of the state, with a duty to prove your innocence on demand of your masters.

I knew Sid Porter when he was just a "lowly" patrolman and I know for a fact that MWCPD has better training than that. Maybe this got handed down by Chief Clabes or the Mayor, I don't know. Someone with a gun on their hip in a proper holster going in to the Pizza Inn over there by police headquarters, sitting down and ordering a meal is MORE THAN LIKELY not committing a crime. So if 4 cops come in at different intervals to eat lunch see it and ask him over and over for his permit, it's going to get a little annoying, if not on the verge of harassment. If, however the same guy is hanging out BEHIND the Pizza Inn looking around like he's casing the joint or something would warrant suspicious behavior. It's subtle things like body language, verbal cues, "shifty eyes", etc. that can tip off a cop to a crime being committed, NOT "fishing" around by checking everybody you see that's open carrying on the off chance you'll catch somebody that's not supposed to be. This is bad policy. Why not use a little common sense to catch criminals and keep people safe instead of pissing off those exercising their rights?

Midwest City police will check for permits when they encounter someone openly carrying a gun, Assistant Chief Sid Porter said.
“When public safety comes up, that is No. 1,” Porter said. “If we see someone carrying a weapon in a holster, they have to have a permit on them and would be asked to show it. Anybody with a weapon on their side is considered a suspicious person.”

This is ridiculous!

What are the LEO's that are hell bent on hassling permit owners going to do, when they encounter a citizen from another state that is LEGALLY open carrying in our state WITHOUT a permit? Now THAT'S where it gets interesting...

Well come election time I suspect they will have a change of heart. Just as they all were dead set against CCW here. I still remind the fundraisers who call the shop that the state FOP and Sheriffs association oppossed CCW and I still remeber . So no we will not be making a donation thank you

Seriously, there's a half dozen new gun laws going into effect this year. - I pray that the LEO's are given extensive training on these new laws, or someone's going to get hurt
If I read the immunity waiver correctly, it's entirely possible that the individual officers will be the ones getting hurt in the end if they hassle the wrong person. Personally, I like the idea of waiving qualified immunity--providing personal (rather than institutional) consequences provides motivation to learn and follow the law, regardless of whether you're a public or private actor.

There's plenty of time for them to learn the new law, I hope.
