I originally wanted a surefire, but the little ones just cost way to much for me. Got a pd22 and CRKT Ken onion for 105.00 total.

Glocktogo and ezbake - thanks for the advice. I have looked at several different sites and the notion to consider anti-roll or spot v. flood just would not have crossed my mind. It is very easy to wrapped up in lumens, run time, batteries and forget all about the practical side of it. I appreciate the advice and NOW I understand why someone feels the need to carry 5+ lights. Not saying I will do that or that I agree, but I do understand it. Thanks again.

...when dealing with lights, the old adage of "Two is one and one is none" is true. Nothing worse than having your only available light crap out on you at a critical moment...

Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. :rolleyes2

A backup light takes up as much space as a tube of chapstick. Fenix makes several different models and different battery types (AA, AA, CR123). There's no reason why ANYBODY shouldn't carry a smkall backup torch for WHEN (not if) their light lays down on them, because it will. It's happened to me more than once.

I've got one of these and love it - 120 minute run time; full recharge in 90 seconds; no batteries - http://www.511tactical.com/html511/static/LFLDemo.html

Beware of those rechargeables! :yikes2: That's what led me to Surefire. My good ol' Streamlight SL-20 took a **** on me in the middle of a manhunt. My car was almost a mile away and I was out there in COMPLETE AND TOTAL darkness :lookaroun with just a teeny, tiny keychain LED squeeze light that I had gotten free from some internet company I had ordered something from.

If'n I'd a had a Surefire, I coulda dumped the dead batts, tossed in a new pair and been back in the hunt. But instead, I had to go back to the car, put the light on the charger and go on home because I didn't have another flashlight. :grumble:

This was back before I was such a flashlight nerd, over 5 years ago. It's never happened since and it will never happen again. :hellno:

Have my fenix next to the bed, but don't really carry any thing except for the streamlight on my keychain. Might if I ever see a small light weight one with a pocket clip.

Not necessarilly picking on you chr_edw, but it amazes me when guys spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars on the perfect blaster, the perfect holster, a spare mag pouch (uh...you do carry a re-load, right? :lookaroun) the most expensive tactical folding knife out there but they don't think that they will ever need a tactical flashlight. I've even had people go as far as saying, "well, I never go out at night, so why do I need one?" :anyone:

The very first time you are in a shopping center, grocery store, restaurant, casino - whatever, and the power goes out, then and there, you'll wish you woulda had one.

One of the very best small lights with a pocket clip is the Surefire E1B Backup. Dual modes 110/5 lumens, carries like a dream, powered by a single CR123 battery, there when you need it, right around a C-note.

Still too much deniro? :ugh2:

Try a Streamlight PT-1L. Basically the same size as the Surefire E1B, features three settings (high: 110 lumens, low: 12 lumens and a strobe) pocket clip and like the Surefire, runs on a single CR123 battery. These run usually on the soft side of 50 bucks or so.

That's why I had my Surefire C2 Centurion bored to accept 18650 rechargeables. The one in the light will run for an hour and a half at 520 lumens. I have a spare in the kit and if worse comes to worse, I drop the P-60 spare lamp in and I can run CR123's for hours, using the Surefire lamp/6 battery spares carrier.

Those 18650's save me a LOT of money on batteries. I also use the light a lot more, since it's inexpensive to recharge them. :)

I hear ya... No offense taken. You are right though I really don't feel a strong need for a carry light. My streamlight keychain will definitely get me out of any mall or movie theater. Although i'm about one or two more carry items away from being Batman

Just have not seen one that I'm in love with yet. Then again I have not looked that hard. I have the fenix "would have to look what model" but it's a little bulky, a cost that sits on my desk and a blackhawk on the shotgun. What do you guys think about this one for an edc http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00396S1Q2/ref=gno_cart_title_1

E1B is my carry light both on and off duty. It is an absolutely fantastic light for its size and price. Surefire has NEVER let me down since 2003 when I first started using their products. Excellent customer service as well.
