Wow, I did not see that old liberal standby coming. I guess that must be why there was NO food stamps until FDR. Ol' G. Washington was not passing out Food Stamps.

Don't forget that FDR threatened to stack the SCOTUS with progressive judges in order to get his social programs passed. New Deal indeed...

I'm not necessarily 100% against all social programs, but things just seem to be out of hand. There has to be a better way to deal with these issues, doesn't there?

Don't forget that a law is only constitutional if the law is made in pursuance thereof the Constitution (those powers enumerated in Article 1, Section 8). A law not made in pursuance of the Constitution violates the Tenth Amendment and left to the states or people. I don't have a problem with Oklahoma having a welfare system. Just keep the federal government out of it. In pursuance thereof is found in Article VI.

Correct, and I considered adding this to my post, but facts seem to simply attract more disbelief. There is a group who always wants to get wrapped around their emotional responses and moral indignation. "OMG, it takes a village you meanies. I will make you believe." Generally, the hidden agenda is to make you pay for their "morals" so they don't have to.

Welfare is such a small blip on the map of our problems that it's barely worth discussion.

There is no doubt that the economy in general is the number one issue. If it were robust, then people probably wouldn't be as concerned about welfare and there would be less people on it too.

I'm sorry, I have to disagree....$1 Trillion dollars a year on unconstitutional expenditures is not a 'small blip'...and it is one of the only discussions we should actually be having.

So do you throw out a program because a few screw it up, or force their ideas on others? If so, then the first time a CCW holder makes a bad shoot, throw out that right. And before you say it, Life Liberty and the Pursuit of happiness is a right for all Americans, minors and adults alike. No, I am not saying welfare is a right, but living in a society demands responsibility for less fortunate.

To respond to your other comment, I do not force others to pay for my morals. I have been a foster parent, adopted 3 children, and tried to teach my children social responsibility by taking care of our known widows, and those in need either by food, or services. Not trying to toot my horn, don't really care what you think of me, just get tired of people taking the "morally high judgemental road".

Generalizations are stupid in any opinion, there are always abuses and always exceptions.

Federal funded highways are not constitutional either. Neither are Veterans benefits. I'm not equating any of these, but honestly it seems like a lot of folks ignore 90% of the unconstitutional budget in order to gripe about the >5% stuff.

In my honest opinion, welfare should be provided by churches and non-profit organizations and the government should stay out of it (not for the benefit of tax-payers, but for the benefit of those truly in need).

Still, any griping about welfare is just taking our attention off of the other >95% of money being spent on things it shouldn't be.
