It wouldn't be bad to read up on the siege of Leningrad.

I don't expect to be hemmed in by an invading army, but when the food runs out the results are going to be pretty much the same. One big difference:
Our cities have a population that don't know how to procure food, haven't any experience in doing anything that requires hard work or planning, and depend on our structured handout system to provide for them.

You know why you shouldn't feed the bears, right?

Kind of the same thing, except these bears are taught to be envious of those that provide, so not only will there be hunger and desperation, but throw in a fair amount of hate as well. Zombies waiting to happen, just wait until the goodies are gone.

Irregardless of how much we enjoy prepping and planning for the ZA, how many of you would actually survive more than one or two months, should the bottom truly drop out? I have medical needs that would render me useless about a month after loss of meds and they are of a type I can't stockpile (some refrigerated). Best I can do is put my family in a position to survive after I'm gone. I know a lot of us here are in a similar situation, through age if nothing else. Does it change how you prep or why? Just curious after re reading the Black Tide Rising series by John Ringo, probably the best most realistic look at a ZA.
Jason, put your meds. In a ziplock or some kind of water resistant bag , then string your meds into a deep lake. That should keep your meds cool enough.

Speaking of stockpiling meds, how would even go about it? Most life critical meds are only obtainable via doctor's prescription. So you walk into your doctor with a list of meds you will need and would like to have just in case and by the way I need a 2 maybe 3 year supply of. Watch the look on his face when you say it might be a good idea to have a couple hundred oxycontin and prozac in case of injury or panic attacks for your family. Even if you found a sympathetic doctor that understood what you are trying to do, by law he can only prescribe a small amount at a time. And this overlooks the notion that insurance is going to pay their part for this stockpile. It might cost you thousands of dollars for critical meds if you would be allowed to buy them and may have a way to preserve them in storage. Yeah you can buy all you want of over the counter pain meds and even buy some antibiotics at animal supply stores which is better than nothing, but it's not near enough for many people.

Many non refridgerated meds you can get from overseas online pharmacies. I have a 5 year supply of Zyrtec... And Boner pills :laugh6:
