As long as you dont run amsoil, i wouldnt worry about leaks. Amsoil is great oil it just make everthing i had leak so i went back to mobil 1 and dont have anymore problems. A car that new probly should have synthetic just be sure to run a cleaner through the engine before you swithch.

Amsoil now has a hi-mileage oil that soften and refreshes seals and gaskets, I use nothing else and it works great!

wow you guys are changing your oil way to often.

07 ION factory recommended interval is 7,500 miles and requires Synthetic Oil according to GM
09 Honda Accord is 10,000 miles

for the ION

1.Your vehicle's engine requires a special oil meeting GM Standard GM4718M. Oils meeting this standard may be identified as synthetic. However, not all synthetic oils will meet this GM standard. You should look for and use only an oil that meets GM Standard GM4718M.

NOTICE: If you use oils that do not have the GM4718M Standard designation, you can cause engine damage not covered by your warranty.

2.SAE 5W-30 is best for your vehicle. These numbers on an oil container show its viscosity, or thickness. Do not use other viscosity oils such as SAE 20W-50.

Oils meeting these requirements should also have the starburst symbol on the container. This symbol indicates that the oil has been certified by the American Petroleum Institute (API).

You should look for this on the oil container, and use only those oils that are identified as meeting GM Standard GM4718M and have the starburst symbol on the front of the oil container.

Your vehicle's engine is filled at the factory with a Mobil 1 synthetic oil, which meets all requirements for your vehicle.

Substitute Engine Oil: When adding oil to maintain engine oil level, oil meeting GM Standard GM4718M may not be available. You can add substitute oil designated SAE 5W-30 with the starburst symbol at all temperatures. Substitute oil not meeting GM Standard GM4718M should not be used for an oil change.

ENGINE OIL ADDITIVES
Do not add anything to your oil. The recommended oils with the starburst symbol that meet GM Standard GM4718M are all you will need for good performance and engine protection.

I use the full synthetic Castrol Edge w/ Titanium 5W-20 in my vehicles, my mower and my 4 cycle weedeater. In my '05 Grand Marqis it improved my highway milage by approx. 3 miles per gallon.. from 21-22 MPG to 24-25 MPG. That is usually running at 70 MPH w/ air conditioning.

In my truck, I noticed a significant difference in my radiator temp. The motor runs a lot cooler and sounds smoother. Last oil changes, I went with the latest Castrol version that sells for about $8 a quart.. and I change the oil every 10,000 miles. Even at 10,000 miles the oil often looks like new. The first 5,000 miles I sometimes had to get the sunlight just right to even see the oil on the dip-stick as it was still so clear I could only see the oil's level by the sun's reflection off of the film. As long as I can afford it, I plan to use the full Synthetic.

My Generac whole house natural gas fueled electric generator's warranty also calls for using 5w-20 full synthetic oil.. it didn't suggest any certain brand to use. Dozens of hours of running time on the oil and it was still crystal clear.

There's no danger in switching. There's no danger in mixing. There's no danger in using only synthetic. There's no danger in using only conventional.

Lots of myths surrounding it. The most basic thing is, synthetic oil is more resilient under extremes (extreme temperatures, running times, running speeds), so if this car is your daily driver and is not subjected to towing, arctic or desert driving, or drag racing, you're safe just sticking with the conventional.

As dieseltech said, you guys are literally throwing money down the drain. Modern engines do not need the oil changed anywhere near as often as the older engines. Tighter tolerances and better oil mean you can run 7500 or even 10,000 (with a filter change) on a single change.

The reasont hat some synthetics leak is because the molecules are smaller and they fit through openings that are too small for conventional oil. I prefer Royal Purple with 2 treatments of Zmax. I have done a lot of research on Zmax, it truly is a microlubricant. It has smaller oblong-shaped molecules, so it fits into the micro pores of the metal. It uses the heat cycle of the engine to draw it into the engine. Every single Nascar team uses it, they actually buy it, and Nascar teams don't buy much.

You would. E far better of spending your money on a high efficiency single pass filter. Cleanliness is the key to reduced wear. Synthetic is far cleaner out of the bottle than petroleum based fluids so that's a plus. Amsoil has a single pass filter that's the top in the industry. Just remember that the oil passages in an engine are very small so DON'T PUSH YOUR OIL CHANGE INTERVALS OUT WITHOUT UPGRADING YOUR FILTER.

I'm also an Amsoil dealer and run it in everything I own. I've been using it for over 12 years now. I've ran as long as 30k miles between changes, only changing the filter at 10k intervals and topping it off, but that was almost all interstate driving. I now run it 1 year or 15K because I'm not driving the miles I was back then. That car went well past 200k before it cracked a head and it had Amsoil's full synthetic in from it's 1st change. Yes it had some leaks but what engine with 200k doesn't? For the naysayers I had to change the upper and lower intake gaskets at 175K miles. When I pulled the lower intake off I found ZERO sludge. The stuff just works.

The Ford Edge I bought after that one had right at 94k on the clock when I bought it a little over a year ago. Amsoil went into the engine and trans immediately and it hasn't leaked a drop. Has almost 120k on it now. If I couldn't run Amsoil I would run Mobil 1 Extended Performance with the best filter I could find.

The Mobil 1 filters are decent but very over priced. The top tier Wix and Purolator's Pure One are just as good and cost far less. But I'll go to great extents to get Amsoil filters because I think they are better than their oils and that's a tall order. Nothing beats Amsoil's filters.
