I guess I might push my crankshafts harder that others do.

I do not think I have ever heard on a synthetic oil for my favorite Nitro Fuel dragster at 7000hp, Wonder why?

Thank you for you compleytly pointless rant

Nitro Fuel drag racers do use synthetic oil. 75w oil mostly, about 5 gallons in a dry sump system that gets changed when they rebuild the motor after every run.

Always stay with wix myself, they are endorsed by nascar if that means anything to you. Fram are probably the cheapest filters they sell. That's why they always have deals about a complete oil change with a "free" fram filter. If you were keeping it 3k miles prob would be fine but if you're going for extended oil change intervals get a good filter, or change the cheap filters out at regular maintenance interval.

Also, remember to fill the filter before you put it on the engine. If you don't the engine will run without oil pressure until the filter fills up.

Also, only tighten about 1/2 to 3/4 past the filter contacting the mating surface. You'll thing it's too loose but trust me if you tighten them too tight you'll never get them off. Make sure to put a film of oil on the rubber o ring.

Could you elaborate?

Relatively small (less surface area)
Cardboard ends
Rubber drainback valve (better make sure to change every 3K AND never run hot)

I cut open two Fram filters that both had ~5K miles on them. Both filter cartridges were still soaked after sitting, which tells me they aren't very efficient (grab the oil, too). The Wix filters drained off just fine.

Yeah, I'm a Wix/Quaker State guy. I was kind of proud when I tore down the motor in my 2009 F-150 with 72K miles - she was clean as a new one.
