Riverparks is a public trust who maintains the Gathering Place within its on trust within Riverparks borders. Riverparks has their own security; I believe police were there for the opening weekend due to the sheer number in attendance.

Being in limits, the Police has jurisdiction there if they choose to respond and patrol. Similar to how they can respond at and have jurisdiction over county parks within city limits (e.g. LaFortune Park).
Were the officers possibly there off the city payroll? I know contractors on the highways hire off duty OHP to sit at construction sites with their lights/radar operating while staring at their iphones. The Thunder hires off duty OKC police to act as security at times I've been told in full uniform.

From FOX 23 regarding the Gathering Place's response to escorting 3 people with gun permits off the property for bringing guns in:

Tulsa police said all three had open carry permits, but the Gathering Place is private property.

Officials released a statement saying they want to ensure the Gathering Place is a safe place for Tulsans and guns are not allowed in the park.

"Over many years, we sought input from the Tulsa community on how to ensure Gathering Place is a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for Tulsans and their families. The community responded emphatically that firearms at the park are not conducive to creating this kind of environment, which is why they are not permitted. Park security and the Tulsa Police Department are working together closely to ensure these rules are clearly communicated and consistently enforced."

Officials at The Gathering Place said they have a security team and policies in place so that people can feel safe when attending the new state of the art park in Tulsa.

I was there at the park today. So I can say rhere were tons there on patrol and blocking roads and running traffic for the parking and shuttles

I know they're paid for things like marathons, etc. But this was so many I'd suspect it was the department doing it. I don't think they'd be running that many on a private gig.

I'd like to see a copy of those "inputs" and where they got them. I doubt seriously they can produce any study or poll that said that....emphatically.
We have to protect ourselves because the "security" may act like the parkland deputy and hide from his responsibilities to "serve and protect".

Agree on the opener, but later in the season when it goes slack was my speculation.

It might take an FOI action to find out just like with who paid for the school buses, wonder if those will be used for the regular shuttle services that have been talked about.

I don't have a clue.
I know I like parks and the openness they provide. Even though we don't live in the Tulsa area, we visit on a regular basis and have visited the newly renovated park in Sand Springs. Walked the trails, and love the river access. We have parks in our small town, but pale in comparison to what is available in the bigger cities. I CC in our parks as well.

And how would you feel if you couldn't or knew you could be kicked out for doing so?

I can be kicked out of any place that has a gun buster sign. Nothing new. It's not a crime unless you act like a jackwagon and want to prove some point, then it becomes a trespass misdemeanor.
Conceal Carry away bro!
