I need to finally sit down and watch this. I saw that it was on Paramount Plus. It sounds like I'm missing out.
I liked it. Saw it at the theater and then bought the dvd. I’ve seen about 5 movies at the theater in the last ten years and ended up buying them on dvd
Maverick was okay. Good special effects. If I had to compare, I'd vote for the original. The story, I thought, was better.

We've seen it twice now, the first time at the theater on Imax then again at home on Paramount. I like both the original (that I've lost count on how many times I've watched) and the new Top Gun while my wife prefers the new film over the older one.
Weird that this thread gets posted. I just watched it last night for the first time.
I thought it was a good flick. A little too much of being over the top, more so than the first one IMO, but the plot was better than the first one too.
The very opening of the movie was actually my first part. Where he was wrenching on his P-51. In real life that's his plane. How cool would it be to not have a financial care in the world and get to wrench on that and fly that all day, everyday if you wanted to? I could live in that hanger and be perfectly content.

The Navy returning a 60 yo pilot as an instructor at Miramar, is a bit of a stretch.
My cousin's son was one of those instructors. But he was more Nick Cage, not Tom Cruise. He flew Apaches.
Retired and flies Life Flight, now.

It’s good if you don’t realize the whole plot is really stupid. A b2 bomber or missiles would have been used. That doesn’t make for a good story though.
