Our DIL works in the high-end restaurant business in the DFW area.
lf you tip on the card, the restaurant deducts taxes from the tips before paying the server.
Just like wages which tips are.
So, we always cash tip, then pay on the card for the meal. I only tip for the food cost. Not the liquor tax, nor the sales tax. I don't tip the government for stealing my money.
You have to really screw up to get less than 20% from us in Oklahoma.
Socialist states though have increased the minimum wage for even servers in restaurants.
Colorado has raised it to over $13 an hour. Commiefornika is trying to go to $20 an hour.
I worked a lot of jobs for less than that minimum wage and did not get a single tip, having to make do with what showed up on the paycheck.

I was picking up my pizza at Marco's Pizza and I heard the guy at the counter taking a call in order and at the end, he asked the caller if they would like to add a tip or wait until they pick up the order. I like Marco's Pizza, but I haven't had one in about 2 and half years.

Heck my first career year at ODOT in 1992, I made $7.33 an hour on a location survey crew. I thought I was in the "short rows" (some of you know what that means lol) because it was twice the min. wage of $3.25.
$1,733.33 a month net.
Now I'd starve to death on that.
I feel old lol

Went to a little cafe today. Service wasn't great. Food was ok. I left cash tip on the table and paid with my card. Right as I was signing the waitress walked up and saw I put 0 tip and says "hope you have a better rest of your day". My day is going great. But she assumed I left no tip.

I've only not tipped twice in my life. That was when the bartender accidentally sprayed beer all over us. A lot not just a little and she didn't offer anything in return. Another time a waiter dumped a cup of sauce down my back. And didn't offer anything. Other than that, I always tip and sometimes tip A LOT.

It seems like now tips are more compelled than ever. Sometimes its hard to even figure out how to skip the tip screen. Is this actually doing a disservice to people that rely on tips? I used to enjoy showing people I appreciate their work but now I'm kinda of annoyed when the screen pops up everywhere now.
I had a server spill garlic butter on a pair of Lucchese boots a few years ago and offer nothing, and I still left a tip. :rolleyes2
