Finally bought a grapple. It’s considered an economy grade; I think mainly due to the low tolerances and cheaply designed pivot points. But the materials used are beefy and this is the grapple design I wanted.

The bolts are used for the pivots, so when they wear, those will be cheap to replace. I will likely do some modifications once I use it and see areas for improvements. It’s heavy, weighing in at about 450 lbs per the seller. It’s 48” wide which is what I wanted.

You won't regret getting a grapple. I highly recommend a grill guard of some kind. A limb can do a lot damage.
I added a couple extra crossbars on the factory guard, but there is still plenty of room for branches to go through. I’ll look into building a buying a full guard.

I damaged the wire mesh on the front of my JD the first day I used the grapple. The guard I wanted had expanded metal and wings to help protect hydraulic lines, but it was unavailable at the time. The one I bought was pricey but cheaper than replacing my radiator. Expanded metal on the grapple may help. The manufacturer of my grapple makes some bolt on guards for the nack of the grapple, but anythung solid will limit your visibility. If you can build your own, there's lots of examples online for grapple and tractor guards.
