My Daughter Megan and I were on that ride. Fun and unique experience. We had that old dog in El Reno for the Heritage Days I think back around 08-09 - some of us that worked that deal got to ride it up to Kingfisher and be bused back to El Reno- I'm sure it would not be as much fun if you did it all the time, but every train ride I ever took was a blast to me.
No, 4014 could not have made that trip as it was still in Los Angeles on static display in a county park. It was taken to the UP steam shop in Cheyenne WY around 2014 for a full rebuild & return to service. The UP steam locomotive doing tours before that was 844.We had that old dog in El Reno for the Heritage Days I think back around 08-09 - some of us that worked that deal got to ride it up to Kingfisher and be bused back to El Reno- I'm sure it would not be as much fun if you did it all the time, but every train ride I ever took was a blast to me.
