First off, I dont know how much of this you know but......

Live weight = weight of the cow as it lives

Hanging weight = generally weight of the cow without guts / organs,
The head, hide and legs below the knee joint removed.

Take home weight = weight you yake home of the cuts you specified.

Each farm might price theirs differently.

Some might include the butchering costs, some will state "plus processing".

The processing costs might include, but could be billed seperate;
1) transportation
2) kill fee
3) cut and wrap

Here is a link that might help

Meat Processing Terminology - Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners

Read up, and ask a lot of questions to compare!

Good luck!

Anyone know the best place to buy a whole beef? Not bothered to make a drive if it’s worth it. I have a friend wanting to split a whole beef and trying to find the best place…

Local ranch I checked out is $4.75 a pound… This ranch selling claims a 1/2 beef is 400-500lbs of meat.
A guy listed one on KECO FM Tradio today Grass fed. I believe he wants 1000 for it.
he said he has two more coming up.
