The Fair used to be about the kids and having fun. Now it's about making a buck. I had to work at the fair before I retired and I couldn't believe how much the vendors were getting charged for being there.
License fee from City Licensing.
Permit fee from the Fire Department if you had a tent or cooking with propane or using any flammable device for display.
Fee for vendor space.
Fee for cubic foot space for vendor space if you used more than you were "allowed."
Tax Commission Charges.
Required to use cash register rented by the fair so they could see how much you made and charge a percentage of your profit.
Health department licensing if you sell food.
Beer licensing.
I'm sure I missed a few cause I've been out of it since 2007, but one whole building is dedicated just for sign in and licensing for the vendors.

I didnt plan on going but i won fair tickets on kmod.
Never been and not going to start this year
I go to the fair for the expensive food.
You are right as rain, Just Stan ... 55 is old according to State Fair officials ...
We, we are officially out (thank GAWD). When I told GC how much it cost he said "Would you rather just go to the book store and get a coffee or something?" The only reason I go to the State Fair is because my darling husband wants to go to the State Fair -- I am off the hook!

To be honest Im a bit frugal and wasting my hard earned money at the overpriced fair makes me cringe. Handing my dollar over to a greedy and grungy looking carnie is like nails on a chalk board. The only redeeming quality is looking at scantily clad (for better or worse) chicks, Im young so its not pervy just yet.
