I have heard nothing but good about Ruger's 1911 and they seem to be reasonably priced.
I have owned a Remington 1911 R1 and it was a good gun also at a reasonable price (~$600.00)
Have a buddy who swears by S&W 1911 E-series BUT they will max out your budget.

What's the best still Made in America 1911? Preferably in the sub 1G range or around $800.

I'm having trouble reconciling "best still made in America" with "around $800" but suggest a look at the STI 1911s, which are made in Texas but start around $1000.00, or the S&W.
Many of the cheaper guns are foreign made or have considerable foreign content, which reduces the price. I saved up and bought the S&W 1911 Pro Series .45 and it just runs and runs. 100% made in Holton, ME.

STIs can be had for just over $1000.

To the OP, pick your poison..... Colt, Ruger, Sig, or S&W.

I just bought an STI Guardian from someone on the board, and can whole heartedly recommend them. I'm a good shot, but no pro, and my groups at 15 and 25 yds were surprising to me. I have little 1911 experience, but STI had my vote of confidence

ive had a few rugers and they all ran 100%. best bang for your buck as far as 1911s go. attractive, reliable, lifetime warranty. Their was an online sale last week for commander SR1911s for something like $530 NEW. even at the regular prices around $630 they are worth it IMO.

So STI it is, I guess. Anyone know if they are all Made in the USA or just assembled here?

Edit: I just checked STIs website and it says they are assembled in Texas.

I wonder of these which ones dont have firing pin safeties? I don't think you can get a Colt 70 series for under $1,000.

Lately, Colts have been getting blown out at good prices. Well below $1000. They may have dried up over the summer though.

As far as FPS.... just the Ruger I believe, unless you find a S70 Colt.
