What is the current hourly rate to pay a child care sitter for watching TWO elementry age GOOD kids at your own home?

I have a good college student to do this and want to make sure they are paid well. I was thinking $15.00 or $20.00 an hour? I expect it to be for 4-5 hours.

Thanks

I know you can't put a price on your childerens safety and wellbeing. Paying a college kid $100 a day to watch a couple of kids seems a little extreme. This is the kind of thing that skews the value of a dollar. Said college student will be pressed to find a job making that amount of money after taxes once graduated. It is really none of my buisiness though. Sorry to interupt.

If you're talking about traditional babysitting, $20/hr, usually with a 3 or 4 hour minimum, is about right. I have a couple younger friends who do this for extra cash. If you're talking about all-day regular childcare, there's usually a flat fee for the day, and agreement on the start time & latest time needed, how meals and activities (for the kids and caregiver) are paid for, etc. I wouldn't plan on paying less than $10/hr, plus expenses. More if they're highly qualified. Childcare ain't cheap.

If they can't make $100 a day after taxes with a degree, they should probably drop out.

My gf does some nannying here and there and she got $20 for one kid. I know she had it good so I would definitely say $20 for two is on par.

I would pay $20 an hour if the sitter can do a few things:

make sure the children eat
get kids to bed on time
have a professional attitude
maybe a little study session
feel comfortable with her

And for all you whining about $20 an hour, you make it sound like the sitter is being paid 40 hours a week to do that, which comes out to more than $38k a year.

I don't even have kids but if $20 an hour for a few hours means I have peace of mind that my kids are safe and taken care of while me and the wife are out, then I have no problem paying that.
