We've always been told at work to watch what we post on Facebook, I always thought it was more of an empty threat, as I'm known around the workplace for having somewhat funny, but risque posts on my Facebook. I was listening to the radio this morning and it was a topic of discussion, several people even called in to say they or knew people who were fired becuase of what they wrote on Facebook and even some who said their Facebook was used against them in court.

For the old folks on here, Facebook is a stupid social media website people use to try to have sex with the people they graduated with 10+ yrs ago or to tell alot of people at once that you are at Arby's eating a Beef n' Cheddar.

Do you guys think that it's fair a work place can use outside legal activities against you? How is this not a Freedom of Speech issue? Discuss.

First let me say that I deleted my facebook account years ago. I have seen facebook postings used to fire people. They were fired for caused a disruption in the workplace due to the fact they were posting their disdain for co-workers and the client on their facebook.

As a general rule I would say it's not right but under certain circumstances I can see merit. Either way...Don't friend your co-workers if you are going to talk chit about them later.

I opened up a FB account a long time ago to look at my sons page, and after about an hour on there, deleted the account. Its like the phoenix. It keeps coming back on its own after awhile. Delete it again, and it comes back. I just ignore the emails from that place now.

Trying to delete a FB account is, as I've mentioned before, harder than trying to flick a dog eye goober off your finger. You fellow dog lovers will know what I mean.

Couldn't the argument be made that Facebook simply reflects the person posting to it?

If you get fired for the dumb crap you stick on FB, it is fair to say that YOU are being fired, not your Facebook page.

Chances are the dumb crap comes out of your mouth whether it's posted to FB or not. You might be the type to get fired/arrested/have your teeth kicked in without it, so why play the victim?
