With a revolver you can get more power than you can in a semi auto. As the previous post pointed out. You are trying to get one gun that will work for three different uses. Carry, home defense, and fun. It might be better if you picked one that was better for one purpose and compromise on the other two. You can use a .44 magnum for fun and home defense. I have one that is decent for carry too. SW 329PD. it isn't as fun as the other .44 magnums I have owned because it is too light.
I made a compromise. You may want to also. If you want a carry gun mainly, one with a lighter weight and fixed sights would be best. There are a lot of choices.
One thing neat about revolvers is that the same action can be used for different purposes just by getting a different barrel length and different sights. Grip sizes and shapes also make a difference when you are determining what use the revolver will have for you. You could even get two of the same ones with different barrel length and sights. The ammo could be the same and the grips could be the same and the trigger and action could be the same too. Yet you could have two separate uses for the two guns.
