Why win the wars when you could just profit from fighting them?

W.W.D.D.E.D.?

The real problem has been there almost from the start of the country. We are always prepared to win the last war. We throw tons of money into equipment that would have been great, last time, and when we do try to plan ahead, we always go with the gee-wiz factor. "Guns are obsolete" so we built ships and fighter aircraft without guns. Big mistake, and we are slowly trying it again it seems. Replacing the cheap to use but effective guns with missile and soon to be rail guns. Sure we still do have some guns on ships but they are getting smaller and smaller. Not big enough for fire support so call in an airstrike when a couple 5 inch shells would do the trick.
Sorry for the rant but it is always the lowly trooper that pays the price for the mistakes made. We need a balanced, solid plan and equipment, not what is politically correct.

You settin sight on being the next annoying “conservative” idea spewer?
Cause we already got that rugergr8 or whatever he’s called

Actually, I am trying to give us something to discuss besides the same old weed and 2A threads. We all agree the 2A must be protected we just disagree on the methods, and the pot threads get old so fast I get bored with them real easy since none of us are going to change our minds.

Most of us are to old to discuss hookers and we all have different taste in porn so what else is there?

True back in the day, but technology is coming along. JDAM's from aircraft now have controlled explosion capability's to take out a squad on the ground or a room in a building.
A current destroyer naval ship can deploy dozens of smart missiles that will hit the target every time vs a barrage of guns that can be very accurate but not nearly as accurate as the missiles.
Ground forces are being supplied with optics on their weapons and shoot around the corner technology without the soldier presenting themself as a target is in process.
Smart bullets fired from ground troops weapons that always find their targets, as well as miniature drones that can look over the next obstacle before assaulting it are currently in limited use.
Some of this is advantageous in the current warfare, but would have limited use in dense jungle warfare.
It's pretty much impossible to determine where the next conflict may occur, and the military has to roll with what they have until new weapons designed for that environment can be developed.

I get what you are saying and to a point I agree, but electronics can be jammed. One small airblast and all our aircraft and missiles are pretty much useless. Knock out our GPS sats and we might as well be throwing rocks. I am not saying do away with modern tech, I am saying we need a blended approach instead of putting all our eggs in one basket. Keep the missile on our ships, but back them up with a cheap ole big gun that can still shoot even if line of sight. Do not replace all the close in weapons guns with missiles, etc, etc. Oh and give our troops a rifle that can not be stopped by a cinder block wall.

I'm thinking that your not aware our military hasn't given each of those concerns some consideration? We aren't talking a smart toaster in the kitchen here. There are hundreds of GPS sats out there with redundancy.
We have rounds that will go through a window and explode behind it. Not in the current armory, but they are out there as exploratory weapons.
It's been said that the next war will be won by jamming the other sides computers not on the battle ground.
I'm sure that's being addressed.
The .308 barely slows down going through a cinder block wall BTW.

I am aware the military thinks about these things, then some paper pusher falls "the next big thing" speech by somebody. They pay billions of dollars for weapons that are overly complicated. Do you know the F35 can not defeat the F16, F15, F18, Mig 29, Mig 31, or J20?
As far as the next war will be won by jamming the other sides computers, possibly and the Chinese and Russians have both been all thru our systems so I think that will be a draw.

As far as the 308, agreed, to bad our troops have the 5.56.
