Odds of us having a war with China or Russia are so slim. What's the benefit of either of them defeating the US? What could they want?

Control of the S Pacific or most of Europe, and no they would not have to conquer Europe. Just defeat the US and most of Europe would be kissing their a$$ in a heartbeat. Lots of resources at stake.

Before cell phones everyone had a newspaper in their face and a road map to find a destination, nothing has changed but simplicity.

Sorry Charlie, but people as a whole have never kept up with current events except perhaps the military and elderly. The younger folks and that included me many moons ago couldn't have cared less about what is happing in DC much less internationally. The young folks are interested in IPhones, sports, movies and _____________. If it affected them personally then they would pay attention otherwise psssssst!

They already build, own, and operate the bulk of shipping globally. I don't see the gain.

I really don't either but both are pushing for it. Russia is trying to regain what it lost when the USSR broke up and control the natural gas supply to Europe. China is building islands in strategic locations to try and control the S Pacific. They have already had small disputes with Vietnam and the Philippines and have scared many nations in the area into beefing up their militarizes. Even Japan is expanding it's military.

Yeah, the man made islands are a crazy attempt to claim fishing and drilling resources. Others have tried to redraw the definitions of sea borders, but Russia and the US don't want that as we do the same to Mexico, Russia does it with Northern Europe.

If China does end up going to war over it, hopefully we'll have leaders smart enough to let them all sort it out themselves. Go back to being a sleeping giant.
