Cheaper to buy in bulk and from forums and marketplaces as long as the seller has a good reputation. Can still be had for 40-45c per round that way. The shipping and/or tax stacks on if you buy it from online shops, and locally it's always overpriced. I love my 7.62x39 ak's though, cheapest 5.56 ak that's worth getting is probably 1200-1500 too, an m90, beryl, or galil.. Wbp barrel is nitrided and 5.56 is high pressure, and heard of firing pin issues. Would not consider a psa 5.56 for anything, lol..

When I bought my AK-47 and AK-74 in 2008 one of the draws was cheap ammo for them. I did lay in a fair supply over time but the cost of 7.62x39 has gotten ridiculous and 5.45x39 is pretty goofy now too. If I was considering those today I'd probably pass on both of them.
Exactly this. I still have mine that I bought when both the rifles and ammo were cheap. I'm keeping mine and the bit of ammo I squirreled away but I probably wouldn't buy one today.

Hopefully there will be a ton of unneeded surplus soon.
