Up for sale is a World War II vintage M-8 37mm flare pistol. This particular one was made by the Eureka Vacuum Company(EVCC). These were used by the US Army Air Force in WWII. The protrusions on the end of the barrel, allow it to lock into a port on the side of the plane to fire illumination flares or signaling flares outside the aircraft. They were also used as a survival flare gun in the event of crashes.
Unlike most examples, I have seen online, this one appears to retain much of its original finish. Most examples you see online are almost bare metal instead of combination of what looks like bluing and black enamel. The example for sale on the Apex link below gives you the comparison.
This one does have some spots of rust on the barrel, and on parts of the frame. I thought about sanding it down to remove the rust and then refinishing it but I figured stabilized rust areas while still maintaining the original finish would be more desirable for future owners.
Here is an example of being sold by Apex. Note the condition being significantly more worn and the price of $375. US A/N-M8 Pyrotechnic Flare Gun, Signal Pistol, WWII 1942, Eureka Vacuum, 37mm *Good*
This would be a great addition to a World War II collection, Military collection, aviation collection, etc.
Asking $250 200 $175 obo. Cash would be ideal, but I will consider trades. I think the price is fair, considering the asking price and selling price of other examples in worse condition. It can only have original finish once and most of the ones I see are almost completely devoid of original finish. I am located in the Tulsa metro area.
