Things fall thru the cracks some times. Court records departments are busy places looks like.

I had gotten a ticket in Wagoner County on the Muskogee turnpike in 1990 by the OHP when I was in Okiehoma visiting from California. I paid the ticket because I remembered I did and I also remember my insurance going up and my boss in Cali being upset because it was on my MVR and I was on the company insurance as I did alot of driving around San Francisco in company vehicles while working- a funeral home/death scene cleanup company, etc. We had to maintain clean driving records.
But many years later when checking my record myself online in 03' after I had moved to Oklahoma I noticed in Wagoner County records that they had my ticket listed as not paid. But no warrant went out,no letter, nothing. I live in Wagoner County so I went over to get it straightened out cause you just never know when its going to be a problem. And it was quite an ordeal getting it all figured out. They had no record of it being paid,I had no proof I had paid it as it was 13 years prior, but no warrant had been issued,my license was never suspended, nada. Peace of mind though when it all got worked out.

So I get a text from my mom last night (she lives in Sulphur) asking me why my name was in the paper under bench warrants. This was at 9pm so I couldn't call anyone to find out what was going on so fast forward to this morning. Call the Murray County courthouse, sure enough it's for me and they direct me to the DAs office. Give them a call, yeap, domestic violence from Sept, 2004. I was 17 at the time, got in a fight with a friend and hit my sister when she stepped in (don't lecture, heard it 6 years ago). Cops came out, yadda yadda, never got anything in the mail to appear before the judge. Now, 6 years later I've got a bench warrant out for me. I've been pulled over for speeding 4 years ago and nothing showed up, got married 3 years ago, and then yesterday I've got a warrant!

So I get to go down to Sulpur (I live in Norman) and "turn myself in" at 1pm today. Had to take the day off work and I'm probably going to get some lovely court fees. The friend I got in a fight with doesn't even live in Oklahoma anymore but my sister still lives in Davis. Would it be worth it for me to take her along since she's on the warrant against me? Or should I just be ready to walk in, bend over and get shafted? Anyone who can help please chime in. I have a couple hours before I leave so I want to be as prepared as possible.

Sorry man but i think your getting the chair for hitting your sister. Can you say "oklahoma shooters" as your final words?

I had a similar deal in Tulsa when I was 16. Got a speeding ticket, paid it (mailed a check), and months later got a notice of warrant mailed to me for failure to appear. My dad freaked out :D even when I showed him the canceled check (this was back when the bank mailed your cleared checks back to you, before online account access).

I called the court, and they confirmed they received my payment. But I guess they forgot remove my pending court date, and so when it came and went, I got a failure to appear warrant issued. They fixed it over the phone and mailed me a certified letter confirming such, but boy was it unsettling!

+1 on all of this.

I know in many (or perhaps most) jurisdictions, DV is not optional or discretionary but arrests and charges must be brought forward. So I am curious why the charge is just now being brought forward. What is the statute of limitations on DV here? And why would the DA just now be digging it up?

Sing along with me, :igetit:Money, money, money. MONEY!

The scary part for me is that I work in gaming. So I get all my records checked by 20 gaming commissions and OSBI and others every year. I dread the day something like that happens to me because in my line of work, that's the kind of stuff that would get me fired. But I supposed I'm good at this point thank goodness.

Sounds to me like some money-crunched city gov'ts may be trying to dig up any and every old police incident possible to get some added revenue?

Anyone?
