In July Styx and Yes will be preforming at the zoo amphitheater in OKC, I have never been there. How is the seating there, the general admission tickets are 42 bucks and VIP reserved seats are 120 bucks, are they worth the extra dollars?:anyone:

Great place for an outdoor show...but there is no 'seating'. It's an outdoor ampitheater with lawn seating, bring a blanket and rock out under the stars.

The VIP section is a special gated off section right in front of the stage with, IIRC, access to different bathrooms and a couple bars.

Styx is one of the few 70s-80s rock bands I'd go see! Too bad it's in OKC and would cost that much for general admission - guess I'll just watch their original music videos on YouTube.

Until the videos are pulled amidst cries of "piracy!"

There is seating for some shows. They have white chairs they setup. The first 4 rows are VIP and have access to the side decks and it's gated off. Sometimes they also have a second and third section setup behind that for more seating. The seating chart on their website will tell you the specifics or just call the office, they're cool to deal with.

I've sat in every section there including VIP and it just depends on what you want. With VIP, you're close to the stage and you can even see inside the side of the stage from the deck and you have a private bar, etc... it's cool. If you just want to listen to the music... grab the cheap seats, get there early and park a blanket somewhere in the middle where the sound will be best. You can't beat just lounging around on the grass and sometimes it beats being elbows and knees to other people and struggling to even see around their head unless you're on the front row.

I've been to many Zoo Amp shows starting with Kattfest 98 and the most recent was either the Journey/Foreigner concert or Styx/Kansas last summer.

The most excellent venue for classic rock shows. Bring a blanket and bring a lawn chair. Sometimes you're allowed to bring in chairs, sometimes you aren't. The info will be posted saying no chairs or chairs allowed, but I've been to one show that said no chairs and yet I was the only idiot sitting on a blanket, so come prepared.

And once the show starts... it's not uncommon to be able to go right through... :uhh:

I'm taking my dad to the ZZ top and Skynard concert next week and have gold VIP passes. Will I need a lawn chair or blanket? This is our first time going to the the zoo amp. Thank you for any help.

I went to the Family Jam, a couple of years ago, as a finalist in a Harley give-away ( no, I didn't win) so I got to sit in the VIP section off to the side of the stage for a portion of the day. I just wasn't very impressed with the facility. Living near the Oklahoma-Texas border I usually go south for concerts, I've seen lots of concerts at the old Coca-Cola Starplex ( I don't know the name it goes by now as they change sponsors every couple of years) at Fair Park in Dallas. It is a much nicer facility with both covered seating and lawn seating. As a matter of fact I've seen Styx there 3 or 4 times, I highly endorse them as a great live band. That being said, I would try to catch them at Riverwind or one of the other casinos. Or if you can make it to Fort Worth, Styx plays at Billy Bobs every few months.

Have some great memories of concerts at the zoo. It has been SEVERAL years since I've been there though. We always took blankets and lawn chairs back in the day with no worries of being turned away because of them. Do be aware that Jon isn't singing with Yes anymore though. Can't remember the new guys name, great vocalist and does a pretty damn fair version of Jons voice. But to me, it just ain't the same.
