See I was thinking start would be $650-750. If we have an upper limit of $1000,... Im goin with EZ's picks or possibly a good deal on a COLT.

That's the cool thing about Bud's - $1000 is shipped (plus $10 for transfer at a good FFL). If you're spending $750 on an in-store rifle, you're looking at tax which gets you up to within $150 or so of Bud's Price on those Sabre Defense Rifles (or any other $900-$1000 rifle) - to be honest, CDNN's prices on M&Ps are pretty darn nice and Smith makes a good AR - nothing wrong with it, I just prefer a few things on my Sabre to the LMT/Smith made ARs.

Not a huge deal for 99% of shooters out there, but that's what makes ARs so cool - everyone can pick and choose whatever they want or just swap parts out later.

I will say that the Thunder-cat logo is cool though - and you can only get that on a complete Sabre rifle/carbine.

well,

I had a DPMS rifle and it went the way of the dinosaur....

I just couldnt trust it in a heavy fire situation...

So Spikes is were I ended up....M4LE upper on a DPMS lower. 3000 rds later and not one malfuntion of any kind. Its a great rifle. really cost me 625.00 to build out.

I will not put my life on the line for some makers

BCM Spikes Daniel Defense are cheap enough for complete uppers and have great reputation...lowers are not nearly as important. I would run any of the three above listed in the worst conditions and be confident in there operation.

you need to look at this, its called "The Chart" it is in the process of being updated but its still a great reference point.

this isnt to say others are bad....just a starting point

Oh No! The AR bug is biting me bad! Guys; I am not a novice shooter, I qualified expert with the M-14 and M16A1/A2 for several years in the Corps; but left the Marines in 1993 and have just never enjoyed shooting a rifle since as much as I do a pistol (or revolver). I just want some thoughts and recommendations on my choices; I have no problem identifying top handgun makers; but I'm just not that up to date on rifles since I left the Marines in '93...what's been the big advances and so on? I just wanna plink and fart around at the farm some; no hunting; iron sights are fine; I bet I can still hit what I aim at at up to 200-300 yards, even with my old-ass eyes! But it needs to be a 5.56 (not a .22lr version) just in case zombies attack and I can't fend them off with handguns. Lots of great responses here from my fellow OSA'ers; sure do appreciate it! Now I just gotta see who has what and decide if I want to buy one. As for zombies; let's keep it a secret that I do have a nice back up 12 ga. boomstick with 7+1/00 buck for them if the combo of 9mm and .45ACP handguns just don't quite cut it. Thanks OSA buds.
