No one considers does to be trophies, and that's our own fault, and something we should try to change. Maybe we can influence how doe harvesting is viewed by the average hunter. I'm as guilty as anyone about wanting to have my picture taken with a buck, or look at other peoples buck pictures.
I never have taken pictures of the does we kill, but I'm gonna start this year. I've already filled my doe tags, but I hope to get every able bodied, gun toting family member out for antlerless days. Hopefully we'll have a big, bloody pile to take pictures of.
So let's change it up. SHOW ME YOUR SLICKHEAD...

SHOW ME YOUR SLICKHEAD...

...*snicker*

Good thread.

This is going to be my doe weekend, so I hope to have pics to show shortly. Tonight I am going to use stick and string, Sunday will be with rifle. The does have my feeder timers timed. They stay in the timber till the exact minute it goes off, then pour over the fence. As soon as it went off last night there were 18 swamp donkeys crowded right below it. I'm pretty confident I can take out one with a rifle. The challenge will be to ONLY get one and not get passthrough shots on another one or two standing behind it!

They should. Does are smart, really smart when they get old. It ain't easy to get the drop on one with a gun in some places, harder with a bow. Young bucks are much easier to shoot than any age doe where I hunt, simply because there is always more than one doe and bucks are often alone. Multiple eyes and ears to bust you. I've been pinned in a tree unable to draw my bow or level my gun with several does close enough to spit on.

Plus it benefits the herd to keep does in check.

after my tires got slashed on thanksgiving, i went ahead and took a doe. However i dont hunt for the meat as much as i hunt for trophies. I shot her at 125 yards with my 30.30 with open sites.

She has a fawn (well big fawn) with her. It was always just her and the fawn. I have also seen a group of 4 does running together in the same area. The next evening i saw a group of 5 does together. i guess the fawn, found this other group and is doing fine. I noticed that she still had milk. Is this normal to still be producing with a fawn that was nearly as big as her?

I love shooting does, especially with the bow. I am hoping to get one this weekend with the .45 1911 or with a M1 carbine. I'll post one if I can get one.

RidgeHunter and I disagree on this matter, but I love seeing blood splatter and gaping wounds. :D

MoBoost - that's a good looking gun. Is that a Mauser conversion?

My brother and I did longest shot bet on does this year. Probably unethical, but much more challenging and more entertaining than taking a chip shot. I won only because I got a double. 250yds on the first one with first shot, 300yds on the second one with the second shot. Brother only had 250yds also.
I barely found the second one. 243 at 300 with 100gr Corlokt doesn't exit. Never found the bullet, but didn't look hard. Definitely won't take that shot again.
