I've used 6.5carcano, 7.5swiss, and .303 for Coyotes.

The Carcanos carbines look like mediocre rifles, but are actually very accurate in my experiences if you can deal with the non-adjustable open sights and are familiar with them enough to know where to aim. They're a great small lightweight form factor - one of the most under rated milsurps IMHO. Just don't use surplus ammo!

What
I have a good friend who takes deer with an SKS. He bought it for like $40 out of a metal trashcan display at a gunshow. He shoots the cheapest corrosive steel cased crap through it, too.

Every year when he takes his buck, I let him know how insulted the animal must feel to be dropped by chicom factory seconds.

Despite having a grand total of 50 bucks invested in his primary hunting rig, he is one of the best hunters I know. He is one of those guys that doesn't equate 'hunting' with 'gun hobby'...

I loaned my brother in law a Type 53 for a truck gun to shoot hogs. He ended up deer hunting with it and had decent luck considering the condition of the gun. That barrel is rough!

i WILL take a deer with a milsurp this year. can't decide which one i will carry. can't beat the accuracy of the 96 swede but like the classic 1903 springfield also.

I was sitting under a tree one year, hunting with the M1 Garand and it started raining. I started to get worried, because mine has an original WWII stock. I started to think of ways to cover the stock up when it dawned on me.... I bet they got a little bit wet during beach landings, heavy rains etc during that war, and in Korea. It got pretty cold and miserable that morning, but thinking about those scenes we have all seen of troopers sitting in miserable conditions, I kinda enjoyed sitting there in the rain with the ole M1. This year I hope to use the 1903A4 clone, or my Ishapore 2A1 depending on where I go hunting.

Well, I don't have either of the two aforementioned rifles anymore, so I will be back to using the Garand, or maybe my M1A.

No worries....the A4 clone may get some use this year :D I shot some of my Garand hunting loads it it and it is well within minute of deer with out tweeking them. I already have more rifles i think than days off to rifle hunt but i really think I will give her a try!
