Greetings to all!
Looks like I am very probably moving to the Oklahoma City area in the next couple of months. I'd like to pick the collective brains of the forum for advice on the "gotchas" in OK gun law. My research looks like it's a pretty gun-friendly place, but my experience has been that just reading through the laws doesn't give you the whole story.
So, what are the common things that trip up folks new to the territory?

Keith

First of all, it is required that every Oklahoma resident own at least three firearms. If you live outside city limits, you must also own at least two dogs, and three vehicles. One of the vehicles needs to run. If your pickup truck (mandatory) is older than 25 years, it must be outfitted with a gun rack. If you have a concealed carry permit, you may also open carry. If you get robbed and get the perp on the ground, check to see if there are cameras rolling before finishing him off. Have you purchased cowboy boots yet?

Hey Doc,

Welcome to the peanut gallery. I would say no gotcha laws. Possibly unfriendly sheriff to armed citizens and then there is always the DA, but those can and do change. I will say there is not a lot of ammo here so bring all you can!

This is pure gold! The funny thing is true it is. But in all seriousness, Dr Keith, you are making a great move coming here to Oklahoma. It is the greatest place to live. I have never talked to someone that has moved here from somewhere else that didn't love it. But it will take some time to get used to I am sure.

Not really any "gotcha" aspects of the law that I can think of. Read through the "SDA Lawbook" a couple times. Most of it is black and white...a few gray areas but nothing major.

Oklahoma isn't the best in terms of being gun friendly or anything else...but it ain't bad.

Here, but occasionally There.
If and when you go to apply for a concealed carry permit, make sure you list any and all "altercations with the law" on your application.

Also, other prerequisites are a good gun safe and a storm shelter. Oh, and a sense of humor helps a lot, both on and off of the OSA forums.
