Seriously?!?!? DO NOT loan them your freakin weapons! Let them go buy their own. They don't need to do "research" they need something that goes BANG when they pull the trigger. They. can get a Hi Point for $100 for Pete's sake. Then sell it for almost the same when "credible threat" is no longer credible.

You loan a wrench, a lawn mower, maybe a few bucks... But not a gun. Day one stuff.

I'd sell it to them before I'd loan it to them. But even then there are probably lawyers standing in line to make a case that you are liable if you knew it might be used to kill/mame.

And it's all on the interwebs that you were aware of said threat for all to see.

I have loaned long guns to friends and family many times. Only time I loaned anyone a handgun was to a friend who was going on a back country fishing trip in bear country. I loaned him a .44 revolver.

I think some of you are a little paranoid, but that's just my opinion. :anyone:

Not paranoid, just cautious. I can understand being neighborly, etc. This practice may have been fairly common or reasonable once upon a time. But we are living in a wacky world these days.
When it comes to loaning a weapon, especially knowing that the person borrowing the weapon may have to use it against someone who has threatened them, is just not very smart IMHO. You're asking for a possible pile of doo doo landing in your lap. Why risk it?

#1 don't post it up on a public forum.

#2 help them make a decision about the proper gun to purchase ON THEIR OWN.

#3 if you're gonna be all neighborly and you feel the need to loan them something, loan them the money to buy their own gun.

#4 then don't post it up on a public forum.

#5 use common sense.
:)

Maybe it's just me?

My take is a bit different. IMO the loaning of a tool to untrained or unfamiliar people is flirting with disaster. The mere possession of a firearm is no guarantee of safety. Worst case you could live the rest of your days with the fact your firearm was taken from them then used to murder. Should you choose to help please at least take time to teach.
