Thanks for the input guys.

They are pretty solid people, and I've determined the benefits outweigh the risks. If you can't accept a little risk to help a friend, you're not really friends, are you?

If they were friends, they'd buy a weapon instead of placing you in a situation so awkward and legally scary that you're having to turn to the internet for answers.

They are on tenuous financial footing, mostly because of the person that's the problem.

They both know how to handle weapons.

My nephew has been threatened with serious bodily harm and even had his car vandalized (20 lb weight to the windshield) by his ex girlfriends family. His parents started asking about a gun for home defense and I did my best to steer them in the right direction to buy something. Did I loan them one of mine? No.
