Truth be known, I only have $300 in my colt gold cup. If you are patient and trade up for profit, you can get a reasonable deal on a fine colt pistol. If you have to have it right away, I second the range officer.
For listening to someone who has experience from 'Mild to Wild' I would listen to GM thunder.
For myself I would save up and get this when it comes out:

Or a Colt Combat model (been a while since I checked their website.
Most of DW's internal parts are now billet and made by EGW.
The way you have limited yourself now to such a cheap gun its like flipping a coin...you take your chances. In 1911s you get what you pay for or pay later to upgrade.
I am not criticising your budget , just stating the reality.
Respectfully yours,
Barry
Well Doc, your opinion doesn't mean jack to me, just because a 1911 didn't cost 1500.00+ does not mean it's a POS! There are several brands/models for much less that are fine weapons, I guess some must spend more to compensate for something else.
I don't believe he stated this....but....... that man has probably forgotten more about 1911s than you'll probably care to know. No matter what way you spin it he's right though. You have a LOT of variables in a number of production guns. This isn't to say you can't find a good one, only that your chances lessen in that price range. Those that have shot a good number of rounds through various 1911s and rely on experience rather than gunshop employee lore, know this.
