Struck out today.......no shrooms, no sheds, no ticks, no dillers..............no shrooms of any kind. Searched a 15 acre patch of living and dead elms and cottonwoods. Zero...very, very dry. All the creeks and ponds are dry but this one, and it won't last long.
Well we got back from Kaw today and had some success. We found about 30 to 35 but they were all small so decided to leave them till next weekend . Hopefully they will still be there and a lot larger.
Mine have never needed freezing, yummy! But yes you can freeze them. They'll last unwashed in a paper bag in a refrigerator too for a while, make sure to close the top of the bags.
They also work well in a dehydrator. My buddy found so many last year, we couldn't eat them all, so decided to dry them. It worked really well. When rehydrating them, they taste the same, but don't have the firm consistency of fresh.
Used them in omelets, soups, etc.
