I bet money I have a Fan for that alternator in my shed---- one of my sheds.
If you want one------ FREE
I appreciate it but with the low cost of these things just driving and coordinating that and swapping the fan doesn't make it worth our while. I will save any of my old alternators for you. I bet a guy like you can use the parts from them. Takes too long for me to learn how to do that stuff right and I drive the truck daily. Will be switching over to my 96 Ford soon though.

After looking at the pictures on Amazon, all the fan blades are bent. I just adjusted the ones that didn't match. I guess I'll make a spacer and make the fan blade faces parallel to the body of the alternator. It's thin metal. Then get a new battery. Might be alright.

Good lord. Parts quality is a real problem. But if even if you can find motorcraft, it's way too expensive for an old truck. I'm running on one fuel pump still. Hope I don't end up stranded.

Be sure to test your tank switch before you do the pump again. Just resistance between the positions. Keep flipping the switch and testing could it could be loose or corroded. Also make sure your hood gasket thing is not torn because water runs down into all that stuff on mine now. And my windshield leaks. Gotta do that next.

Alternators tend to sing some when under a heavy charging load like occurs when a battery is very low on charge or losing cells.
Check the alternator voltage output across the battery and make sure your in the 13.5-14.5 volt range with the engine running and also disconnect the battery terminals with the engine running and see if it continues to run. If it continues to run get your battery tested.

I think you're right. Battery is bad. I'm at 13.6 at idle. I think it should be higher. Battery is 6 years old. I'll get a new battery in the morning. Adjust those fan fins and it might be all good.

Diagnostics are everything except when you know something should be replaced. Might as well replace and then see

I was racing at thunder valley in my 84 Ford E150 van 302 2 barrel with AOD and it ran 18.0 ET.
Beat my buddy in his 91 Z71 350" with 700R4 that ran 18.2.

My buddy bob was there with his dragster and he made 1 pass and had a dead battery and it would not charge.
I stuck my Van battery in his dragster and put his battery in my van.
Yea I swapped the battery into my van while it was running.

My amp gauge pegged the meter and I told him I would race him.

We got lined up and I figured he may blow his dragster up and I might beat him to the finish line.
It did not work out like that he spanked that old van with curtains in the windows.

But that alternator of mine was trying it's darnedest to charge an uncharable battery.

Van ran 22 or 22.5 seconds to get to the finish line.
I smelled battery acid at the end.
Popped my hood when I got to the pits and under the hood was soaked with battery acid.

I gave his battery back and hosed everything down and got my battery and told him 50 amp charge on a battery kills them.
I only use 4 amp at the most and it trickles down to nothing when the battery is charged.

I know first hand how much strain is on your alternator with a junk battery.

I just replaced my 1995 Corolla alternator $ 117 and it went over 383,000 miles before it failed.

Makes sense with my issue. I have been looking for an 80s E150 for awhile actually and that's fast for a van. An 80s E150 is a great camping rig. Can also be converted to 4x4 with junkyard parts.

Toyota stuff is just different. Just lasts forever.

450,000 miles and then he moved away and I never heard from him after that.
Nothing had ever failed on that truck.

Amazing.

My van I built and I lifted it and put seats from a 1998 or 1999 Dodge van into it.
Everything under the hood was ported and tweaked 302 2 barrel.

First pic larger tires and doing stupid stuff with the small tires.
Never ever hurt that old van.

My buddies Z71 was really good at pulling me out but he never would go where I went even if I did not get stuck.
He would not jump his either over dirt mounds.
He is 8 years younger than I am and must have missed the good TV shows Fall Guy and the Duke boys and their shenanigans.

Awesome!!! Exactly what I was talking about! Vans don't get much love but man they are handy and with the same chassis, they can do all the same stuff
